Re: Unhappy? Are You Ready to Feel Great?!! The Mood Cure: Amino Acids and Their Incredible Impact on Moods
Read the book before taking any of these aminos (especially if you're on any other medications like SSRIs or MAO inhibitors). But, here's a quick amino guide I put together for myself. Again, some may find that tryptophan, SAM-E or St. John's Wort work better than 5-HTP. All explained in the book.

Amino guide:

5-HTP

50-150 mg MA, 3 pm and Eve by 10:00 pm

Serotonin
Positive outlook
Emotional stability
Self-confidence
Emotional and mental flexibility
Sense of humor

L-tyrosine
500-2000 mg
AM, Mid-Morning, Mid-Afternoon by 3:00pm
(Add fish oil omega-3, 1-3 gms EPA/DHA emphasis)
Check thyroid and adrenal functions

Catecholamines
Alertness
Energy
Mental focus
Drive
Enthusiasm

DL-Phenylalanine (or D-Phenylalanine)
500-1500 mg; AM, MM, MA by 3:00 pm
(Add free-form amino blend
700 mg x 3 before meals)

Endorphin:
Psychosocial and
physical pain relief
and tolerance.
Pleasure
Reward
Loving feelings

L-Glutamine
500-1500 mg
AM, MM, MA
(Add chromium 300 mcg x 3 meals)

Fuel source for brain cells:
sense of stability and groundedness,
blood sugar balance

lulz. All the morons cry about big pharma and SSRIs and then take a cocktail of supplements aimed at the same results.

Lulz at tards.
Quoting: Hot Fish Pie for Jesus

You're clearly just seeking attention. That's OK. Low self-esteem is often a neurotransmitter (serotonin) deficiency from all the crap we eat and from not getting enough of the proper nutrients.

Pick up the book. It could help you. If you don't want a "cocktail of supplements", just try eating better. The book will show you how. If your avatar is any indication, you're probably not eating very well.

Peace hf
 Quoting: Present and Aware

Snarky for sure! But you are getting attention, so enjoy. Later on when you are admiring your badass amino acid junky self in the mirror you can bitch about all us amino deficient idiots and then admire yourself some more!

PS: Knew a man that sounds just like you, amino acid junky, he died with a lean golden tanned body at the age of 46. His body chemistry did him in. No lie.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2234637

How did he die specifically? I actually take in quite quite a bit of complete protein and isolated as well. Except I am not trying to mimic the effects of an SSRI without taking one thinking I am some how healthier, I take isolated aminos specifically for muscle recovery, more specifically the BCAA's considering they make up most of our muscular system.
Quoting: Hot Fish Pie for Jesus

Heart attack, but he looked great weeks earlier while he lectured me on proper body chemistry, practically jumping out his chair with excitement (read over-stimulated) and insinuated I/we regular people who don't have a clue about amino acid body chemistry are basically gross or lazy people. It was sad that he died, but I seriously could not help but think all the AA's he was taking to highly regular his system, did it to him.

I have that book and it is amazing. I read it thoroughly then followed one of the programs outlined and it really, really helped! I took L-Tyrosine and 5-HTP for a few weeks, I think that's all it took, along with the other vitamins recommended and it helped me come out of the perpetual fog I had been in. Great thread!

Yup, isn't it great? I love it when something works the way an author claims it will. So much snake oil out there nowadays. It's rare that you come across something like this that actually delivers as promised. I'd say she really knows her stuff.

I feel like I did as a child -- clear, bright, happy and content. I went to a local park on a mountain tonight. Everything so crisp, clean, clear and beautiful. No more foggy brain that really kept me from enjoying that simple pleasures in life like this.

Oh, and my sense of humor is back, which is really great. A lot more fun. It's nice not to be "grumpala" all the time.

Thanks for sharing your great report!

I am a user....of 5HTP. I use it to get a good night's rest. My husband uses it in the AM, reduces his job stress. My teen uses it at night, too.

I've used the other supp's mentioned to increase metabolism rate since I'm hypothyroid.

I feel better when I'm supp-ing...anybody has a problem with that doesn't understand the decay of nutritional foods being produced in further nutrient depleted soils.

GLUTEN can also cause LEAKY GUT SYNDROME !!! Since most of your Serotonin is made in the GUT and gluten sensitivity causes bowel inflammation, you will have LOW SEROTONIN if you are allergic to GLUTEN !!!!! so GUT problems can cause you to be DEPRESSED and in fact the number one cause of depression is Celiac Disease ( gluten sensitivity). Gluten gave me ASTHMA, when I stopped all gluten, it went away. I later had problems and found out the COFFEE imitates GLUTEN !!!! so I laid off of coffee and have had no problems since.

Yes, as 5-HTP becomes serotonin and serotonin becomes melatonin, it makes the perfect sleep aid.

Glad you mentioned hypothyroid. She covers hypo/hyperthyroid in the book as something important to consider when it comes to balancing the moods. She mentions Dr. Arem's book "The Thyroid Solution" which says that "One in ten of us, over twenty million of us, suffer from thyroid dysfunction. He calls the depression and mental fog typically associated with this dysfunction "the common cold of emotional illness."

You mentioned: "I feel better when I'm supp-ing...anybody has a problem with that doesn't understand the decay of nutritional foods being produced in further nutrient depleted soils."

This is true to great extent... but often it's a matter of people eating foods that mess up their chemistry... the so-called "bad mood" foods.

Most oils (canola, soybean, etc) outside of good oils like extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil are very bad and are the #1 bad mood food. Most people consume these oils in multiple products each day in products like mayonnaise, dressings, and the million other products often packed in oil. That, along with tons of sugar, white-flour, gluten and dairy, are often the main foods people eat every day. No wonder so many of us feel like crap all the time.

Yes, yes, and yes. You just described me and my gut. I'm definitely highly allergic to wheat (had an allergy test), and likely have Celiac Disease. I had (and probably still have) leaky gut, too, and had that worked on by a nutritionist last year through supplements. That helped about 90% in clearing up many of the effects of the leaky gut, but I can tell I still have more to do.

I did not realize so much of the serotonin was made in the gut. That explains a lot!

And, my lungs are affected by gluten, too. When I eat it, I get a dry, hacking cough and difficulty breathing if I really eat a lot of it.

And, VERY INTERESTING about how coffee imitates gluten. I noticed the same thing. When I quit coffee -- yet drank green tea and other non-coffee caffeinated beverages -- I had none of the problems I experienced while on coffee.

Your post is full of WIN. Thanks.

Yup! That's one of the main "bad mood" foods in the book. Dairy and wheat really mess me up. I knew about those and sugar, but did not realize how bad the "bad oils" were until I read the book.

I tried making the olive oil mayonnaise from the recipe in the book. But, my advice -- don't try it unless you REALLY like olive oil. Was totally gross! (then again, I don't like olives)

Look at the benefits of raw milk, compared to that homogenized, pasteurized crap.

Raw milk is indeed much, much better than pasteurized milk from Holstein cows (I saw one tonight on a local farm that looked quite sickly). Still, I tried it for about a month and couldn't tolerate it. Allergic to something in it. Perhaps the casein. I think I'm ok with the lactose. If I were to recommend milk to anyone, it'd be raw from the types of grass fed cows recommended on the Rheo Blair site to be sure. But I can't tolerate it very well. I do sometimes eat organic cheese and sour cream, but only small amounts. I use almond milk in favor of cow's milk now and tolerate it perfectly well.

Thanks for mentioning this for those who love their dairy. If you're going to drink milk, RAW is definitely the way to go providing it comes from the right cows fed the right feed (grass).

Here's a snippet from Rheo's site on raw milk:

"What is raw milk? Raw milk is the natural unaltered milk usually from cows, goats or sheep but in some countries it is camel or buffalo. It is not heated above the animal's highest body temperature which is usually 101-105 degrees F. (38 degrees C.) Raw milk is not pasteurized, homogenized or frozen, nor has it been altered with additives, chemicals, light or homogenization.* Here are a few important characteristics to be aware of when considering whether to drink raw milk and which raw milk.

1. Real milk comes from real cows of old fashioned breeds such as Jerseys, Guernseys, Red Devons, Brown Swiss and Milking Shorhorns, among others. The source of most commercial milk is the modern Holstein, bred to produce huge quantities of milk--three times as much as the old-fashioned cow. She needs special feed and antibiotics to keep her well. Her milk contains high levels of growth hormone from her pituitary gland, even when she is spared the indignities of genetically engineered Bovine Growth Hormone to push her to the udder limits of milk production.

2. Real milk comes from cows that eat real food: GREEN GRASS, for example. NOT soy, commercial feeds or corn,

3. Real milk is not pasteurizied which destroys enzymes, diminishes vitamin content, denatures fragile milk proteins, destroys vitamins C, B12 and B6, kills beneficial bacteria, promotes pathogens and is associated with allergies, increased tooth decay, colic in infants, growth problems in children, osteoporosis, arthritis, heart disease and cancer. Nor is real milk homogenized, a process that breaks down butterfat globules so they do not rise to the top. Homogenized milk has been linked to heart disease.

4. Real milk contains butterfat and a lot of it. Average butterfat content from old-fashioned cows at the turn of the century was over 4% (or more than 50% of calories). Today butterfat comprises less than 3% (or less than 35% of calories). Worse, consumers have been duped into believing that low-fat and skim milk products are good for them. Only by marketing low-fat and skim milk as a health food can the modern dairy industry get rid of its excess poor-quality, low-fat milk from modern high-production herds. Butterfat contains vitamins A and D needed for assimilation of calcium and protein in the water fraction of the milk. Without them protein and calcium are more difficult to utilize and possibly toxic. Butterfat is rich in short- and medium chain fatty acids which protect against disease and stimulate the immune system. It contains glyco-spingolipids which prevent intestinal distress and conjugated linoleic acid which has strong anticancer properties.

5. Real milk products contains no additives. Powdered skim milk, a source of dangerous oxidized cholesterol and neurotoxic amino acids, is added to 1% and 2% milk. Low-fat yogurts and sour creams contain mucopolysaccharide slime to give them body. Pale butter from hay-fed cows contains colorings to make it look like vitamin-rich butter from grass-fed cows. Bioengineered enzymes are used in large-scale cheese production. Furthermore, many mass produced cheeses contain additives and colorings and imitation cheese products contain vegetable oils. **"

Re: Unhappy? Are You Ready to Feel Great?!! The Mood Cure: Amino Acids and Their Incredible Impact on Moods
A great quote someone just sent me:

"Thoughts are our enemy. When we are free of thoughts we are naturally blissful. The gap between two thoughts is our true state; it is the real Self. Get rid of thoughts, be empty of them, be in a state of perpetual thoughtlessness. Then you will be consciously Self-existent. Thoughts, desires and all qualities are alien to our true nature. The West may praise a person as a great thinker. But what is that? True greatness is to be free of thoughts." - Ramana Maharshi

How true. When the mind is quiet, we feel our natural, happy self. Hard to do when the physiology is out of whack. Easy to do when it's in balance.

Aminos have me feeling great - not because they are inducing some sort of unnatural or artificial high, but because they put an end to the deficiency caused primarily by my own previously inadequate eating habits (getting much better in this dept.) Such deficiency generates "false moods" that are usually negative and that end up stirring up the mind and thinking. When the mind is active, we tend to overlook the naturally peaceful, happy self that lies within us.

Thank you for sharing that. I appreciate the gesture.

I know the actual method as it was originally taught was good. However, I'm also quite aware of him and his organization and cannot support him or them in any way. If you want my reasons for that, feel free to ask. I have about 100 of them (at least).

Better yet, come up with your own answers. What's your gut impression of him? Not what your head says or what others have said about him, but what your heart/intuition says? Is he trustworthy or not? Do you feel he would put YOUR welfare above his own? Is he truly expressing unconditional love? Do you feel he is detached from material wealth? Do you find he is always at peace or often down in AGFLAP?

Just ask yourself these questions to come up with your own answers. You don't need to look at what anyone else is saying, just don't "release" what your own perfect intuition/direct knowledge is telling you within. Trust your intuition. NEVER "release" your common sense or gut feelings. Those come from a deeper place... arising directly from Beingness. Those feelings should NOT be released. They are your internal guidance system. I've seen him teach people to let those feelings go too and that becomes unhealthy and potentially dangerous. It's a good way to control people, as it's our intuition that protects us from harm. If we're told to let our intuitive feelings go, then what's left to guide us? Only our ego mind based in AGFLAP.

If you wish, you can search his name and his organization's name at RipoffReport.com and see what others' experience has been.

Good luck. I'd recommend Sedona Method over the Release Technique. It's not perfect, but it's better, IMO.

Re: Unhappy? Are You Ready to Feel Great?!! The Mood Cure: Amino Acids and Their Incredible Impact on Moods
Amino acid therapy for depression, anxiety, ADHD, addiction and more

"Neurotransmitter imbalances have been linked to several diseases including Parkinson's, depression, insomnia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, anxiety, memory loss, weight gain, and addictive disorders. These neurotransmitters are formed in our bodies from amino acid precursors. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Without the proper levels of these amino acids, we cannot survive, as proteins are responsible for the structure of our cells in addition to their function."

"In the conventional management of diseases, such as depression and anxiety disorders, patients are often prescribed medications such as SSRIs (Celexa, Prozac and Zoloft) or SNRIs (Effexor, Pristiq and Cymbalta) to increase circulating levels of neurotransmitters. By increasing the neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine, they are able to bind to receptors leading to changes in mental function and stabilization of many mood disorders."

"There have been deficiencies in several neurotransmitters associated with ADHD including dopamine, norepinephrine and acetylcholine."

"Typically, amino acids can be obtained through proper diet in a healthy individual. However, in the presence of disease, such as depression or addiction, it may be difficult to obtain proper amino acid levels through diet alone. Therefore, we may need to supplement amino acid precursors in a concentrated form to achieve proper circulating levels that can impact our health."

"By supplementing precursor amino acids such as tryptophan, tyrosine and glutamine, we are feeding our bodies with the building materials needed to make the neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, and GABA, among others."

I think this is carry over from the tryptophan ax-job in the late 80s.

Here's what happened in the 80s with Tryptophan, which is a perfect example of the demonization of helpful supplements by the powers that were:

"Tryptophan vs. 5-HTP
In the 1970s, the American health food industry began to provide an alternative method of getting more tryptophan to the brain -- tryptophan supplements. Many people found that 500 to 3,000 mg of supplementary tryptophan daily provided practical relief from depression, PMS, insomnia and obsessive-compulsive disorders. In 1989, the FDA removed tryptophan from the American health food market due to a mysterious outbreak of a rare but serious ailment -- eosinophilia myalgia (EMS). This EMS epidemic was later traced to a single batch of contaminated tryptophan from a Japanese producer. Thirteen years later, although tryptophan has been proven to be safe (and is currently available in baby food formulas, intravenous feeding solutions, and veterinary products) the FDA still shows no signs of allowing tryptophan back onto the market as a dietary supplement.

Fortunately, a safe, natural and effective alternative to tryptophan has been researched for over 30 years. This substance is L-5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP). 5-HTP is not produced by bacterial fermentation (as was the tainted tryptophan) nor chemical synthesis, but is extracted from the seeds of the Griffonia plant." And, look at the establishment-controlled site you're getting it from. WebMD. You can hardly get it from a more drug-friendly site than that one.

I think we know who's behind THIS unfounded scare also, don't we? It worked so well in the late 80s didn't it. So well that now people are still avoiding tryptophan even though it was cleared.

Thanks for your post. It's VERY GOOD to look at these sorts of reports.

You can an A+ and an "attaboy!" or an "attagirl!"

No problem, I understand your take on him and his org. Personally speaking, it has helped me enormously; changed my life, really. Learning the ability to give oneself unconditional love was profound and well worth the work I've done with it. I don't ignore or release intuition, nor do I follow anything blindly, just a lot less quick to judge. It isn't for everyone, just wanted to share. I do respect your critical thinking, ironically enough! All the best.

A great reply. I love to see people thinking for themselves.

Interesting thread. Makes sense the amino's would give similar results as prescriptions.
