You want a job? Want health insurance--you need to be in excellent health--not the future, but happening now, and coming to an employer near you.
Last night I attended a lecture at our local high school --

(From his lips to my ears I heard his PLAN for the nation LOUD and clear--ask me a question!!)

The guest speaker was non other than the INFAMOUS Dr. Michael Roizen, best freinds with Dr. Oz, author of many books such as "Are you as young as you can be?" and "The real age diet"...and with Dr. Oz "You on a diet", "You staying Young"......

In 2007 Dr. Roizen was named Chief Wellness Officer at the Cleveland Clinic, the first such position in a major healthcare institution in the United States.

You might be thinking "so what"?

Here is what ALARMED me.

The Cleveland Clinic is the largest employer in our area.

They are doing some groundbreaking things that are "PLANNED" to effect every man, woman and child in this country...sooner or later.

First--you might wonder why a hospital would invest major $$$$ to fund a "Wellness" program. Hire a Dynamic Dr. to tirelessly promote this new agenda that to force people to be "WELL"?

THe first step was to require all employees of the Cleveland Clinic to not smoke.

They fired two top Dr.'s who refused to quit smoking. They tested people and tied their ability to get reasonable health insurance to their compliance.

Every year the difference between the "Well" people and the others meant more $$$ expensive health care. He stated that now that difference it $2000- a year.

They test you to see if you are using a legal substance and punish you by making your healthcare $2000 more expensive than the others who don't smoke.

Well, that might sound like a good idea--but wait, now you can not get hired by the Cleveland Clinic if you smoke--and they test you. They are selling their program to a hospital or business near you as we speak.....

OK, so smoking is "bad" for you, I don't smoke, why should I have to pay higher insurance rates for those who do??? But, here is the thing.....

[link to www.nytimes.com]

"Hospitals Shift Smoking Bans to Smoker Ban
By A. G. SULZBERGER

"Smokers now face another risk from their habit: it could cost them a shot at a job.

More hospitals and medical businesses in many states are adopting strict policies that make smoking a reason to turn away job applicants, saying they want to increase worker productivity, reduce health care costs and encourage healthier living.

The policies reflect a frustration that softer efforts — like banning smoking on company grounds, offering cessation programs and increasing health care premiums for smokers — have not been powerful-enough incentives to quit.

The new rules essentially treat cigarettes like an illegal narcotic. Applications now explicitly warn of “tobacco-free hiring,” job seekers must submit to urine tests for nicotine and new employees caught smoking face termination."

~~~~OK, so here is the KICKER.....what will be next?
How about this quote from the above article
"One concern voiced by groups like the National Workrights Institute is that such policies are a slippery slope — that if they prove successful in driving down health care costs, employers might be emboldened to crack down on other behavior by their workers, like drinking alcohol, eating fast food and participating in risky hobbies like motorcycle riding.
The head of the Cleveland Clinic was both praised and criticized when he mused in an interview two years ago that, were it not illegal, he would expand the hospital policy to refuse employment to obese people.
“There is nothing unique about smoking,” said Lewis Maltby, president of the Workrights Institute, who has lobbied vigorously against the practice.
“The number of things that we all do privately that have negative impact on our health is endless. If it’s not smoking, it’s beer. If it’s not beer, it’s cheeseburgers. And what about your sex life?”
This thread is NOT ABOUT SMOKING, it is about your freedom as an american to decide what you do in your private time away from work.
The Cleveland Clinic is promoting their program around the world and many International corporations have already adopted their plan.
They have a list of 5 things (requirements) employee's have to meet in order to get the less expensive health care---but they can easily push to have these be requirements to be hired or keep your job.
1. You must not smoke
2. You must not be over weight--(OK, so most people might agree with this--but WHO decides where that line is? And what if you put on a few after you are hired, like after menopause???
3. Blood Pressure--Healthy guidelines
4. Cholesterol-- ( my pet peeve, since the medical community is divided about what is healthy or not)
5. Stress
I'm trying t get this right from my memory--not a lot on line about this.
When Dr. Roizen took this job at the Clinic he had all the Soda Pop machines removed from the Clinic.
He had all the friers removed from the kitchens in all their hospitals.
Can you see where this is going--He wants to see this done everywhere....like during prohibition---
He has a short list of 5 things that you SHOULD NOT EAT
1. Sugar
2. White Flour, any grain that is processed and not "whole"
3. HIgh Fructose Corn Syrup
4. Saturated Fat
5. Trans Fat
I have been at the Cleveland Clinic recently and I know they showcase restaurants that have their windows filled with sweets and things make with white flour--so his job is not done yet---but one step at a time---
Will he push to make eggs illegal? Butter, Whole milk, cream????
He is pushing a VEGAN agenda.
Will there be a "SIN" tax in your future on everything with "Fat" in it?
Who is Dr. Roizen, and is he spearheading planned social engineering?
One of his plans at the Clinic was to create an atmosphere of "health" so everyone would feel pressured to comply with the new standards and programs.
He made the fitness centers on their grounds free for all employees regardless of income. Sounds nice right? They track how often you attend.....are you getting this????
Do you know that the Cleveland Clinic has jumped on the "Health and Wellness" bandwagon big time. They have a website devoted to SELLING you the latest items (including all of Dr. Roizen's Books) to help you achieve wellness.
You can by relaxation tapes, vitamins, health foods.....exercise items.....
I agree with what you said, except my point is that we are heading into the realm where you can not get hired if you smoke a cigarette on the week-end while you are off of work or on vacation.
I believe people should be responsible and have to pay for there indulgences--yet where do we draw the line?
If you have a social drink, eat saturated fat, or ride a motorcycle does that mean you can not be hired, or get insurance at any price???
The point is who gets to decide and how much can they control our behavior--if you show up for work and do your job, what you eat, how you live should be up to the individual.
Michael Roizen
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[link to en.wikipedia.org]
~~~~I'm trying to make the point that this Dr. is not an ordinary Dr.

He is not trained in nutrition, fitness or any of the things he is tirelessly promoting.

He is the VOICE of a new AGENDA that is gaining steam and will seek to put more external controls in our lives, many we might not wish to embrace.

Michael Roizen is 66 years old and does look younger and if full of passion and energy for what he is doing.

"Roizen has also been criticized for what has been called his wild exaggerations about the potential payoffs of exercise and healthy eating."

He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Williams College in 1967 with a double major in Chemistry and Economics.

Subsequently, he attended the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine.

He is board certified in both internal medicine and anesthesiology.

His residency was at Harvard's Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. After 9 years on the faculty at the University of California, San Francisco, he was the chair of the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care and Pain Management at the University of Chicago for 16 years.

He then became dean of the School of Medicine and vice president for Biomedical Sciences at SUNY Upstate.

He co-founded RealAge, a service providing personal health tools to consumers, and is chairman of the RealAge Scientific Advisory Board.

He became the Cleveland Clinic’s chief wellness officer and chairman of the Clinic’s Division of Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, and Comprehensive Pain Management in 2004 and was named chief wellness officer and chair of the Wellness Institute in 2007.

Dr. Roizen still practices anesthesiology and internal medicine, using the RealAge metric to motivate his patients.

He has personally delivered medical care to 8 Nobel Prize winners, more than 709 ex-smokers, and over 100 Fortune 500 CEOs and CFOs.

He chaired the United Way Fund Raising effort at the Cleveland Clinic in 2006 (it achieved record results, including over a 15% increase in donations to become one of the top 3 healthcare organizations in United Way Donations), and has served on the boards of five non-profit foundations. Roizen serves on the Advisory Board of HealthCorps. He served as President of the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists in 1997-8, and has won over 75 trophies in class A squash competition. He has been in the Best Doctors in America and then America’s Top Doctors (the successor book) since 1989.
Roizen and his wife, Nancy—a developmental pediatrician—live in Cleveland, Ohio. The Roizens have two children: Jenny, a Williams graduate and PhD graduate student at California Institute of Technology (she plans to start a Post Doc at Stanford in 2010), and Jeffrey, MD/PhD, received his double doctorates from Washington University in 2008, and started a residency in Pediatrics at Philadelphia’s Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Roizen is a ROCK STAR Dr. who is on the Radio, On TV, has the ear of over 100 Fortune 500 CEOs and CFOs.

He is SELLING his agenda to the company you work for, here and abroad. He is selling his agenda to your city, your state, your health care provider and your hospital.

He completed a residency in internal medicine at Harvard's Beth Israel Hospital.

Served as CEO of the BIOTECHNOLOGY Research Corporation of Central New York.

He was a past chair of a Food and Drug Administration advisory committee

He is the founder or co-founder of 12 companies

Former editor of six medical journals

Dr Roizen has published more than 170 peer-reviewed scientific papers

100 textbook chapters, 30 editorials, and four medical books and ...

Received 13 U.S. patents and many foreign patents.

He is also the best-selling author of "REAL AGE: are you as young as you Can Be?"

"The Real Age Diet", "The Real Age Makeover", "You on a Diet" and "You Staying Young"....

He has been on TV many times, has written for magazines, and newspapers, and hosts a weekly radio program for Terrestrial.

~~~Honestly I think he was very disappointed that there were only about 75 people at this lecture, he said it was the smallest audience he had ever had.
This is a man who is poised to step into a powerful role with the ability to develop and enforce new national policies about YOUR HEALTH and personal life.
Our culture is centered around the car. If in places where possible such as cities walking was more common for average folk instead of just the poor who have no choice, Americans wouldn't even have to diet. Americans do not walk enough. If you have to find an hour out of your day to go for a walk to stay healthy, something is wrong. Walking should be part of your lifestyle, not something you schedule in your day.
Every city square filled with grocery stores and strip malls should have 2 sides for vehicles and 2 sides for walkers and it should be easy to cross over to other places without waiting for 60 cars to pass you (that air isn't healthy, either).
Adrienne Zurub spent 26 years as a nurse in the cardiac operating room of the country's foremost cardiac hospital, the Cleveland Clinic.
When she wrote her memoir, observations about her career and her employer were bound to be a part of it, offering a rare peek behind the scenes at Cleveland's largest employer.
She self-published "Notes from the Mothership" on Jan. 8.
Two weeks later, she was fired.
"They told me I was fired because of the book . . . after 26 years of stellar employment," Zurub, who has hired a lawyer, said in an interview. "The two administrators who fired me admitted to me they did not even read my book."
Zurub compares the Clinic in her book to a "prison environment" where nurses, to survive, must have alliances with certain surgeons who afford them protection based on the surgeon's stature within the hierarchy.
"I have observed angry, uncontrolled behavior from so-called educated people that on the street would get them arrested, beat up or shot," Zurub writes. "But that culture was/is considered part of the culture of this environment, a culture of impunity, and thus covered up or taken care of internally or generally tolerated."
Zurub's book offers a glimpse. She says a doctor she worked with for years, whom she does not identify, was an "arrogant, misogynistic, dehumanizing yet brilliantly talented bastard."
My mother works for a hospital in Ohio SW, they are now implementing a new policy, starting Jan. 1, that tests for nicotine. New applicants will be fired/not hired if smoking, and current ones terminated, upon the same argument this asshole is saying.
She told me since 70% of the people that work their are fatasses, why the hell should she give up smoking? Stating her argument until they fire her or she finds another job, but she is currently seeking another job as we speak, just because of this draconian policy.
People don't think this can happen to them until it is too late, this is alarming and will not stop with smoking.....
Your job should not dictate what you do with your free time--and when they fire you for using a legal substance....just imagine where else they can go if they can do this--
Many places have been doing this since 2005, it is a growing trend-- I think places were afraid to do this until they say other places doing it successfully.
People who don't smoke should be alarmed because the next thing they prohibit might be drinking, riding a motorcycle, eating saturated fat, drinking soda pop, .....and to top it off they force you to take their vaccinations.
Not only are they going to do this to overweight people, they are going to tell you what is overweight--5 pounds, 10 pounds......the problem is who is qualified to make these decisions.....too bad employers have an endless supply of employees now, if it was the other way around people would just not work for these sick employers.
