Son in hazmat training going to Gulf for "expected" oil spill

That is weird. Who ever heard of training for a oil spill till you have one.

This is a company that specializes in marine oil spills. He has already went to school for Hazmat and this is additional training, I was surprised they paid him that much money for just one day of training. They said they did not have enough trained people to respond to Macondo.

Hope he doesn't go cause he will likely be exposed to all kinds of toxic materials that they wont tell him about and he will find out later when it's too late

I am a Deck Officer on a commercial petroleum ship. Hazmat training and oil spill response training is perfectly normal in the maritime industry. Nothing out of the ordinary with that.

However if they specifically stated that his EXTRA training was for the Macondo well then that is important information.

Closed wells all over the gulf still leak and have leaked for decades. If he works for a spill recovery company than he should be training all the time regardless of what is happening. Is he a newer employee? They might be bringing his credentials up to speed.

We already know the deep horizon well is still discharging hydrocarbons. Perhaps they have been dispatched to contain that ongoing problem.

What needs to be determined is if inside information was actually revealed and if they are aware of an ever growing problem with that well.

It is possiable they have a contract or permit that requires them to have x number of certified people?

I am going to ask him if they specifically mentioned Macondo. I was surprised though the the oil spill business is ongoing like this. I thought it was more of an emergency response - but it does make sense that they should train for this AHEAD of time.He did say that there were not enough trained people to respond to the Macondo spill when it happened.

The Gulf Floor cracked open. It was not a BP spill. They just got the blame.

making money off disasters will fix the economy in no time.. lol

Iran has threatened to create a spill in Strait of Hormuz.

Maybe they are saying GOM just to throw him off track.

i think we just might have one going on for the last 2 year in the GOM and one just might be happening or about to in La.

and they just might have a connection.

That was my thought, get people fully trained before any such event.

Not a day goes by, in the Gulf, without these type drills going on.

Its on thier coastline. As a desperate war tactic? Maybe, but then clean up is not going to be top priority

He got his Hazmat certification last December and this company is one that he had been trying to get in with for a few months. They just set up this training through his school I think.

250 is "that much money" for training in oil clean up.lol. for the whole day.lol hahaha. It's peanut pay. Wake up america

The company was involved with the clean-up of Macondo, I've found out. They are also training people on the East Coast. He didn't know anymore except that the GOM is where they will most likely be going.

With all that being said, I think that it's not only preparation but also related to the sinkhole and ongoing BP spill.

I just got a hinky feeling about this and the amount of money he will be making just blows my mind...very dangerous and hazardous work though...
