But weed makes you smarter, doesn't fuck your life (only if you become MENTALLY addicted) - in which case you can generally return to normal after abstaining for a while.

Smoking weed is generally related to (through my observations and many others - also attributed to this is long hair ;p) hatred of authoritative figures and belief not only a higher being/spiritual connection, but also belief in conspiracies and that not everything as we see it on earth is reality - or that there is, in fact something more to life than the way we live it.

For these exact reasons, gov. don't want it. Also, the amount of people who would be growing it would infiltrate the market and lower the prices while simultaneously reducing prison sentences all round, reducing prison counts and therefore disestablishing the police state they're bent on forging.
