Salmon, safe to eat after Fukushima?
I've got quite a bit of Salmon, it was caught up by Alaska earlier this year. I live on the West Coast, so I'm sure I've consumed some less-than-ideal foods. But will the salmon be relatively safe to eat, considering all that's been going on at Fukushima?

Answers would be appreciated,
Thanks!

There is no way to check Food with a Geiger Counter,
for Food Sample you need a real Apparatus/ Spectrographic Analyzer

It may not be accurate, but every time I open up a fresh bottle of milk the Geiger counter alerts, so it's worth something.

Now I'm wondering why I still buy milk..

It's possible your state health department can test it for you. Some states have pretty good labs.

Milk is full of potassium, naturally radioactive enough for most meters to read it. God made it that way.

Re: Salmon, safe to eat after Fukushima?
I lived in Bristol Bay during Fukishima and we were worried about the fish. No one tested it for radiation to my knowledge.

This year the king run was terrible, and their path takes them out into the waters towards Japan.

I'm still eating salmon because we need the vitamin D here to make up for the lack of sun.

Anyway I suspect it's still healthier than grocery store meat.

Re: Salmon, safe to eat after Fukushima?
After?
That would imply that the Fukushima crisis is over and radiation is no longer entering the Pacific. Check back in 40 years...at least that's how long Tepco says it will take to clean up this disaster. Far worse than Chernobyl. Radiation uptake is cumulative so these fish become more toxic every day. Next spawn shall produce some scary mutants.

Salmon are a top predator. Any thing bad in the ocean will be compounded just like with tuna. Pretty much it just doesn't matter. You are gonna die. Probably soon. So if you like salmon keep eating it.

Re: Salmon, safe to eat after Fukushima?
We only buy Atlantic Salmon anymore and UK cod but we don't even eat much of that anymore.

Just remember the Fukushima radioactive ocean trash is out there too heading your way so if it's there already then your local fish probably should not be consumed anymore.

The Fisheries and departments will all say it is safe only because to crash the HUGE Salmon and West coast fish business would be highly detrimental to the economy.

You can always get VitD from other sources such as eggs but anything on the West coast be in animal, vegetable or mineral is all fukushima'd up.

If I were you I would just move or import vitamin supplments from some other location.

I agree here. We noticed that no large King Salmon, Silvers, or Reds came in the runs this year in Alaska. Also, large halibut were nonexistent. The lack of larger members of the species would be consistent with cumulative radiation effects. Just enjoy life.

Fukushima exports 1st beef in 30 months

Cattle farmers in Fukushima Prefecture have resumed beef exports to the United States for the first time in 2 and a half years.

Exports of Japanese beef to the US were suspended due to an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in southern Japan in 2010.

Cattle in Fukushima undergo radiation tests before shipment. But prices of Fukushima beef are 70 to 80 percent of pre-disaster levels.

Sept 8th 2012, Eastern Ontario 11:45 am 4.63 micro-sieverts divided by 0.14 micro-sieverts {My normal average background} = 33.7 X background. A new record in screaming high rads for me. It had been raining steady here from about 6 am so I really wasn't expecting to catch anything like this. Since I began our rain and snow here {November 2011} the number have shown a steady increase.
