To increase the effects further, put a smile on your face by the end of the exercise, close your eyes while smiling and think of something you REALLY like to do and imagine yourself doing it. Doesnt matter what it is, just as long it is something that makes you feel really good when you do it, live through it in your mind while smiling and having your eyes closed and really imagine it as you would be doing it right at the very moment. Then when the good feelings are at its maximum, take your index finger and thumb of one hand and gently squeeze together a few seconds and let go, before you open your eyes and remain relaxed. Doing that regularly with the exercise will truly boost the effect, and also make it VERY easy to get back into the same state anywhere and anytime, you will no longer need to do the whole breathing exercise but simply squeezing the fingeres together will put you back into the same good state of mind. Thus it can be done in any situation, whether you are out in public or not, during a conversation, and so on. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 9198871 10/19/2012 03:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is basically what a doctor taught me when I was having panic attacks. I had severe attacks for about 4 years, which often were accompanied by a trip to the emergency room. The doctors tried numerous anti-anxiety meds, but it only seemed to make them worse. The last time I went to the hospital, the doctor taught me how to "breathe". He explained it was up to me whether my brain focused on releasing adrenalin or breathing, but it could not focus on both. If I preoccupied my brain with another task, the breathing, it would quit releasing the panic chemicals. Did it work? It took about a year to completely gain control, but during that time the attacks were extensively lessened. After the first year, I never had another major attack again. Occasionally, I will feel one starting and immediately begin breathing and it dissipates immediately. It has been about 7 years since I have had an out-of-control attack. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9198871 Thats great, glad it works out so good! I also use breathing techniques, but more so I use the mentioned finger squeezing method which instantly relaxes me. I have programmed myself using self-hypnosis and nlp techniques to release endorphins (natural opiate in brain) when doing so, thus it is very effective. Basically that is what you do when following the technique i described above too, although to really make sure you will release endorphins you must imagine yourself feeling GREAT during the "finger programming" part. For example, imagine yourself in a situation which naturally releases endorphins such as during love-making or when sitting down into a really nice warm comfortable bath, or the deep relaxation and well-being of a great work-out, or if you already know how morphine or opiates feel simply imagine yourself in that state while doing it. Do it daily for a couple weeks and it will steadily increase in effects, and be quicker and easier to do. After couple of weeks all you have to do is really gently touch the programmed fingers together for instant relief and relaxation and wonderful calm feelings coming over you. |

So you can smile and imagine yourself laughing at something REALLY funny while doing the fingers technique do further boost the good effects. |

Quoting: chobee Not sure if it's a "cure", but it does work. Thanks OP Try adding the extra steps I mentioned with the fingers programming. Doing these together regularly will be a cure or as close to cure as possible since your mind will gradually become used to be relaxed instead of used to being tweaked. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1601759 11/23/2012 02:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | CURE anxiety, stress... are you all ok! Argentina, do you have any clue what cure means? Take a good look in dictionary and see what a cure means before use it in your thread title. This method at best can be a quick fix, or palliate, or take the age off when someone is in trouble, but that's all. Don't mix up things here. Just because it gives you temporarily relief it does not means it cure. I understand it is better than nothing or chemical drugs, but from there to cure it's a very long way. You have no clue how difficult is to cure a chronic disease, especially mental emotional ones. That's because there is a factor, vibrational in nature, that is attached to the initial acute disease called: miasm. The difference between an acute and a chronic disease is the miasm. If one cannot eliminate this, you will feel better for a while then slowly, slowly the disease/symptoms are back. It's a long story to describe. |
