The popular vote does matter, in your State. There's a reason the electoral college is in place.

They then show the results to the Electoral College! It is expected the the Electoral College vote the way the people request! However they are not required to follow what the people request! This means in Texas for Example if 61% vote Obama you would expect the Electoral College to put there votes on Obama. Texas being a Strong Republican State might go ahead and vote and against the population because who the fuck wants Obama again? The only thing that is actually required from the Electoral College is that they all cast the same vote meaning they can't be 50/50. I hope this clears up the system. I totally get that, but that's an extreme (number one, you're not going to find a 61% popular vote in Texas for Obama... maybe California, but come on!). In addition, it's rare that the Electoral Vote does not match the popular vote in that specific State. It's rare, and in the past when it ever did happen, it had little outcome on the result. It's in place so that states like Texas and California do not carry the majority of the popular vote and out-vote smaller states, thereby not giving them a voice. Yeah I knew when typing the Texas example that it made no sense. I apologize I should of used a more realistic example.
