Well actually logic would dictate that for an alien civilization to make it to earth, that they would have had to have progressed to a very stable peaceful civilization, in order to have not destroyed themselves or their own habitat on their planet, and developed the incredible technology to get themselves here.
So you can throw the idea of violence and exploitation out of the window. Also if they wanted our planet for themselves they would take us out in a heartbeat.
As for the world governments being our representatives and running the show after the alien contact has been made..

Looking at humanity, it's very clear that we have the potential to be extremely dangerous to any civilization out there if we are allowed to develop technologically. And I doubt that will change.
If I was an alien coming to this planet I would get rid of us ASAP when the potential consequences of letting us develop for a few millennia are disastrous.

If there was an encounter, and they are so far ahead of us in technology, we would be like cavemen with baseball-bats to them, we do not pose a risk.

Fear mongering and conditioning makes us believe we would pose a threat to aliens, or that they would want something from us.
That is all bullshit, they can travel to earth-like planets with no inhabitants and get the pure version of what is on our earth instead of the toxic crap we have turned it into.
The only ones we are extremely dangerous to, are our fellow humans.
Especially in the case aliens might arrive and the government and conditioned humans shoot first and ask questions later.
