Remarkable: US vs Northwest Europe church attendance | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 25242176 United States 10/19/2012 11:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I always wondered how there could be such a huge difference in this, considering our cultures are most closely related and the common Judeo-Christian background we share. 2012 surveys show in the US 43% of the people attend church on a weekly basis while overhere that number has been around 5% (on average) for years now. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23321162 Anyone have an explanation for this? When you all think our sexuality is tame... that explains a lot of the anything goes with sex on the other side of the pond. No good values to grow a family... lets just bang anything and anyone, with the younger the better. 5%, I thought that was a bit high. |

By contrast, America was founded in part by religious pilgrims. It's not really strange at all. |

I would say it's more likely that Europeans don't have the whole God delusion drummed in to our heads on a daily basis, and even those that do are allowed to think for themselves and question it without risk of being labelled an oddity. I think most of us have had our fill of what religion offers and want no more of it, I'm hoping that the majority of us have evolved beyond the point of requiring imaginary friends :D |

So they are watered down as they have to bow to the state. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 25949137 United States 10/20/2012 10:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | After 911 America flooded into the churches. Every pew was filled. Then slowly attendance dropped off. America is still a Christian nation, at least the overwhelming majority profess to be Christians, but it seems we need tribulation to drive us to our knees in prayer. If that is what it takes, that is what God will give us. Turning back to God is more important than ANYTHING else in this life. I pray we turn back to Jesus Christ and away from socialism and materialism, before it is too late. If God takes His hand of protection off of America we are done for. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 300884 Sweden 10/20/2012 10:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The reason is very simple: those Europeans who were especially particular about their religious beliefs moved to the USA to be free to indulge in their favorite flavor of religious fervor. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 300884 You are their descendants. Love that alliteration. And BTW, proud of it. As you should. Americans should be just as proud of their freedom of religion as we Europeans are of our freedom from religion. We were separated for a reason, it's better this way. |

And I reckon it's true for most western European countries... [link to www.cbs.nl] Basically 42% have no religion in the Netherlands, and of the 3 largest religious groups (protestants, catholics and muslims) more then 50% of their followers attend their church/mosque less then once a month (so less then ~15% of the Dutch population attends religious services more then once a month). |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 20241035 United States 10/20/2012 06:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | God moves people among the nations. In all the history of the world, the U.S., Canada and Australia were "founded" last. People left England and western Europe and migrated to new homes. Most of the population left in the years prior to WWI in Europe...they got out. I saw a good documentary regarding Australia, and no one can explain how it was never colonized by any country prior to England, yet there is evidence to support multiple cultures having visited (but never stayed) before England. To me, God moved most of His children to these places. He even says that they will be "sent in ships"...back to captivity. In the end, I'd say we'll face most of the judgments... Three Arks: SHIP COMMANDments CROSS / WATER / HOLY Spirit |
