That is why I ordered them.

I hate ginger and apparently it tastes like ginger.

Ginger? Nah, it tastes like spicy hot earth. It makes your food go a luminous yellow too. I have a bit with my veggies everyday. You get used to it. I notice, if you take something that's really good for you that doesn't taste nice at first, your body eventually accepts it and you start liking the taste.

Tonight we had fajitas... fix'em the way you like and then sprinkle turmeric powder over it.

Because of this thread throughout today, I placed an little extra on the fajita meat (beef) and mixed it about. Very, very good.

Y'all that eat fajitas, probably place sour cream over them; I always use fat free cream and tonight placed some turmeric within the sour cream and mixed it together....then placed it on top of the fajitas. Excellent. Had a little kick to it.

Problem with a lot of people - such as my wife - they have this certain recipe and stick with it....I try different things to make it interesting myself.

That turmeric taste - not dirt to me as someone posted - seems to give everything a different twist.

Turmeric is also a great anti-inflammatory, I take it for arthritis, but it can hurt your stomach if taken alone. Ginger mixed with it will soothe the stomach, there is a supplement called D-Flame that we use that has both ingredients and works well.

YES you are right.... do not take it alone. Mix it with your food. I will look around for that D-Flame-stuff.

Better and cheaper to use the loose powder in a mix with e.g.cayennepepper, ginger and cinnamon in molasses, rather than using expensive capsules, the body does not recognize when ingesting. Taken loose, the tastebuds recognize the various foodsignals and informs the body of incoming nutrients, appears more effective for nutritional absorption, so I'm told.

Let's remember now that virtually all disease comes from a deficiency in some mineral or vitamin. I believe turmeric to have the highest level of natural anti-oxidants out there. Detoxing the body is only part of the puzzle, the other part is flooding the body with nutrients

In C6-implanted rats, intraperitoneal curcumin (50 mg kg(-1) d(-1)) decreased brain tumors in 9/11 (81.8%) animals against 0/11 (0%) in the vehicle-treated group. Importantly, no evidence of tissue (transaminases, creatinine and alkaline phosphatase), metabolic (cholesterol and glucose), oxidative or hematological toxicity was observed. In summary, data presented here suggest curcumin as a potential agent for therapy of GBMs.

Been adding to food for years - great stuff. Be warned it does stain, counter-tops, clothes, etc. I re-painted the spice drawer when we moved.

I take it instead of advil. I find it works better.

I've been using it instead of ibuprofen. I think ibuprofen damaged my gut years ago, I'll never take it again.

I use the powdered turmeric, I mix about 3/4 of a teaspoon with a little water and swallow it down.

I'm going to order some capsules because I'm going on a trip and want to bring it along, plus they're on sale at Swanson's right now 2 for 1.

When I have a twinge in a tooth, or a backache or similar, I take the powdered turmeric. Been trying to take it more regularly right now. It's supposed to be very good for your liver.

I buy it by the pound from San Francisco Herb Co [link to www.sfherb.com] one of my favorite companies to do business with online. I get oregano oil from them too, and all my other herbs and spices and teas.

Here's the turmeric page from Earth Clinic:

[link to www.earthclinic.com]

They say it is the best cure for boils/MRSA. It also stops diarrhea, I learned that on Earth Clinic and it works.

You really should have Earth Clinic bookmarked, and read there regularly. So much good information. It's a great resource and the best place to read about Apple Cider Vinegar, Oil Pulling, etc., lots of the things we talk about on GLP.

Bi carb soda should get that off - mix bicarb to a paste and leave it on over night - wipe of with lemon juice or vinegar then wipe again with clean water. Should come clean.

Turmeric is also good for inflamation.

I have found that Cayenne Pepper 1 tbsp in a little lemonade, on a full stomach, is just as effective as any NSAID with none of the nasty side effects like sudden stroke and ulcer.

A friend of mine takes Turmeric capsules to help with his psoriasis and claims it is just as effective as any meds he has gotten from a doctor.

Re: Anyone take Turmeric capsules/tablets?
I am taking this concoction, based on my understanding of what tumeric does for inflammation.
Tumeric is said to be poorly absorbed, alone.
Best to add 1 part piperine to 10 parts tumeric, and put this in extra virgin olive oil, and heat -low.

Now the tumeric absorption is multiplied.

I noticed that my inflammation is improved.
-However- The other day, I ate tacos from a chain restaraunt called Chipotle, and got strangely ill for the last few days. As if I absorbed something nasty into my muscles and joints, but not digestive tract.
Its all speculation, but this is my suspicion so far, because the tacos were the only odd thing I ate.
I think the piperine does as they claim, makes you absorb 10x more than usual, so be careful of what drugs you take as well.

Re: Anyone take Turmeric capsules/tablets?
I take turmeric caps 2 times a day.

I have some kind of GI problem (IBS?) that causes auto-intoxication, and I find the turmeric helps with it, very noticeably.

In recent days, I've tried avoiding wheat, and it's having a positive effect. So my GI upset and consequent toxicity problems seem to be due to wheat or gluten.

My toxicity symptoms include skin problems, mental sluggishness, floaters in my vision, mood alteration, tongue coating.

Psyllium husks are also great or relieving my symptoms.

Turmeric is a powerful agent in promoting detoxification in the liver (it promotes expression of CYT-p450 enzymes)

Some people also take turmeric for its anti-inflammatory properties, but I can't vouch for that personally.

Yes, I heard that too. The bio-availability of turmeric on its own is quite poor, but black pepper helps with this enormously. I take my turmeric capsules with food, and always use plenty of freshly ground black pepper.

I buy from the Indian stores. Really cheap. Only for cooking though.

For medicinal use, I buy caps from the health store. Costs about €10 for a bottle.

I take tumeric in capsule form. I've noticed that it has helped almost all of my aches and pains from past injuries go away. I've gone a few weeks not needing to take pain relievers or wear knee braces. If you take them I do recommend doing so after eating. I notice that it just doesn't sit quite as well if I take them on an empty stomach.

And someone else mentioned this.. but it is a spice. You can use it on your food.
