To take your thoughts and extend them to include some other important observations;
In ACIM it says this about the past....'THE ONLY TRUE THING ABOUT THE PAST IS THAT IT IS NO LONGER HERE.'

And that is also true because each of us has an ego which manipulates our mind and whatever else we see.

And even if many people happen to see and witness the same exact situation happen before them at the same time, often they will each have a different interpretation of what it is that happened.

One of the reasons is that we cannot know the true perception of anything here, because we are here living in this material world which gives us limitations.

Only the Holy Spirit/Christ self has True Perception of everything.

We can ONLY see a limited perception of whatever happens, because we see from one limited viewpoint, and our perceptions are influenced by our own past experiences.
Our past actually colors whatever we see in the present.

So each of us is viewing whatever we see not totally from what it actually reveals to us, but also from what we mix with it, which is brought from our past experiences and memories, and perhaps even from some distant memory of past lives.
Its pretty complicated here. Its like a deep jungle.

Because that ego works like a filter which makes us see whatever it wants to see, even if it is totally contrary to what actually happened.

And the ego, and the dark forces feel threatened by any REAL SPIRITUAL TRUTH, so that truth will be changed and misrepresented to keep us under its control.

Look what they did with Jesus' original teaching, and how they deliberately made an "IDOL" of him and his life so that he would seem too different and "special" and keep him separate from us. And not someone we should even think of trying to follow, to learn to be like he was.

Then they go and portray him as an IDOL of a dead man nailed to a cross.

And people have carried that frightful image with them, instead of Jesus' true message of resurrection and eternal life given to us by a loving God.

God sent Jesus to live his life as we do, so that we could follow his path and ascend to the higher spiritual levels as he showed us we could, by following what he did, and what he said we could also do.

But he is back and now he is teaching us from his website.
