G. House User ID: 14955613 United States 10/20/2012 08:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | About 3 weeks ago my computer suddenly locked up. This spam looking page came on and said I needed to pay the government $200.00 in 48 hours. I read the page over and there were spelling errors on it. I just thought it was a virus or spam or something like that. In a couple of days it disappeared and I could use my computer again. I never paid the money. It didn't look professional at all. It sai something was found on my computer that wasn't legal. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20586262 Now it's happened again and my computers been locked up for about 3 days. This time it says it is from the FBI. It lists about 8 things that it might be that is illegal like copyrighted material to porn. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this for real? I've never seen it before in my life. I don't have anything on my computer that I know of. I know I don't have anything like porn on it. I just thought I would try and ask if anyone else has experienced this and, if so, what can I expect. I haven't paid this fine either. Spybot search and destroy. Google it, download it and run the program. It's a free program. Follow the instructions and it should clear up your problem. Where by the way did this thing tell you to send the money, exactly? It will pop up if you try to download MalWare Bytes and won't let you download any virus removers from the net. It moves around and renames itself in the registry constantly and worse case scenerios you'll have to wipe your hard drive. Same thing happen to me. Like to get my hands on the person that wrote this and wring their nerdy little necks. |

I had the milder version so I can't tell you if that will work. The guys at my computer repair shop says ther is a really nasty version that appears right after start-up and they had to wipe their hard drives. Mine didn't pop up until I accessed internet explorer. Whne I tried to download Malware Bytes it threw up the FBI screen. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 9094168 United Kingdom 10/20/2012 09:04 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | it`s spam. its fake. do not ever pay. think about it. if there was illegal material on your harddrive, "THEY" wouldnt tell you "THEY" know, you would just be arrested. And, secondly, what this is saying is.. "You have illegal material on your pc.. don`t worry, just pay us $xxx and you will be forgiven and you can keep the illegal material." if you find you cant get rid of this, just buy a new harddrive they are dirt cheap, but make sure you have the OS disk or go to linux. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1053533 United States 10/20/2012 09:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's fake, as everyone above has said. Trust me in this, if the FBI thought they had you on anything at all (copyright matters, illegal porn, anything...) There would be a knock at your door, not a heads up warning to leave the country like that. *The FBI CANNOT levy fines. They can arrest you. That's all. The same is true of the CIA/NSA etc. They DO NOT have a system of fines in place. (They might illegally kidnap you and remove you from the country for torture, but they won't ask you to wright a check. Ever.) |

Then ban them for life of ever using a computer ever again. The only way I could like hackers/ programmers is if they were to use their skills to dismantle the US Government,, 1. clear everyones IRS debt ( except corporations ). 2. make all Military and civilian law enforcement drones crash into the ocean. 3. expose all the lies and secret files, and the secret bank accounts of all politicians . If hackers want to do something , then do it right. Expose all the corruption, bribery, murders committed by Government officials. |
