Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23097787 So why don't you do it since you know so much My point is that there is no reason to do it. I built and studied various electrolysis devices while earning my degree. Obtaining hydrogen from water is conventional, easy, and can range from inefficient to medium efficiency. Why would you take that any further? Why use energy to change a pure fuel into something else? It has already been demonstrated that gasoline engines can be converted to hydrogen. It would be insane to waste energy bonding hydrogen with carbon dioxide to create a fuel for the mere convenience of not having to do any conversions... |

While PVs are a clean fuel option with zero emissions, a low 15% energy conversion rate isn’t an efficient option. Whether your future car completely utilizes a fuel cell or is a hybrid, electricity is the most viable clean fuel for the immediate future. Increased development of wind and solar generated power plants, combined with improved fuel cells, will encourage production of these clean fuel cars. MarkinAZ User ID: 20006444 United States 10/20/2012 08:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The oil companies may well try to buy this tech. But once the "formula" for making it is out there, someone else will figure a way to do so around the patents the big oil will pay so dearly for. The other possibility is that Big Oil may feel that using this tech will give them something to see (albeit at a high price) while the wars are being fought in the middle east to see if they will continue to have access to the known oil fields there - or if they'll be rendered radio-active and glow in the dark for the next five thousand years and have so much radiation that no human can enter the area without a lead suit for the next 500 years. Better to buy this tech and have SOMETHING to put thru their refineries and put into their stations empty tanks than to be forced to close down half the gas stations in the country and eat the loss on the real estate alone - which would be horrendous beyond imagination! One more possibility is the once someone has figured out how to do this others will follow suit. If it takes energy it can be made using solar power if you don't mind working during the daylight hours only. A few million in solar panels and inverters can create one HELL OF A LOT of electric power. That in turn can be stored in capacitors, batteries, flywheels, used to heat water to near the point where it flashes into steam, etc. Unless it takes VASTLY more power going in to make the molecules combine in the proper way than the gross amount of power the substance can put out - it should not be beyond the pale to find one of several dozen way to make the power needed to make the substance. |

Where does this process get the energy? |

[link to www.independent.co.uk] what will the trees feed on? trees use carbon in during photosynthesis to create sugars to use as energy, one byproduct of this reaction is oxygen that we breath. i'm pretty sure taking this carbon from the air will cause problems on a mass scale, but very good idea. hopefully they can fine tune it so that they only take a small percentage of the carbon. if the trees have now evolved over the past few generations to live with high carbon levels, then there could be a die off of trees that need that excess carbon. it should only take a few generations to rectify itself, but it is still worth consideration and i hope this company took that into its process design. |
