my guess is a huge wedge of the mantle plume head just barged it's way into the rift zone, which is parallel to this action, so watch Krafla and volcanoes close to her

also, watch the rest of iceland, because now this has upset the balance there, i reckon. Grimsvotn, hekla, katla, and a few others are ALREADY primed to go, and this might just be the trigger for one or more to go!
