Is there a known volcano anywhere near? If not it could be a new one in the making...

I follow events a lot in Iceland and I have never seen anything like this in my life....

I'm following Volcano Cafe at the min but not many people commenting on it just yet....as soon as more info comes out on it I will post it here...

People in North Iceland are calling the newspapers with reports of the earthquakes. They have been felt widely across the northern part of Iceland and even to Isafjordur in the Westfjords. things have been falling of shelves and beds and furniture shake and move.

that's what worries me. laki killed 10000 plus with poison gas in the 1700s, and this quake activity is over a distance three times longer

imagine what a bigger event would do to us today. :shivers:

Heavy earthquake activity in TFZ

At the moment there is heavy earthquake activity taking place in TFZ. With earthquakes taking place every second. Strong earthquakes taking place every 2 to 10 minutes. One earthquake has at least reached the magnitude 5.0 and more earthquake with that magnitude is currently taking place on TFZ.

This earthquake activity can be monitored live (5. min, delay) on my geophone network web page here. I am going to post more information when I have more details.

Update 1: According to USGS the largest earthquake had the magnitude of M4.8. I do not know if this is reviewed data or not..

I suggest you follow Jonf too, he knows Iceland pretty well..He and Volcanocafe are both excellent sites to keep an eye on during this swarm....

I suspect a lot of experts are running around at the minute due to this so the information will come out in drips...

I just hope the residents in North Iceland stay safe...

rock is creaking here from very shallow to very deep. i mean, 35 km down? that's a LONG way down!

All that in 25 mins....Wow...Look how there happening so widespread...Almost like the whole ground could be cracking over a big distance..
