The Mountain Meadows massacre was a series of attacks on the Baker–Fancher emigrant wagon train at Mountain Meadows in southern Utah. The attacks culminated on September 11, 1857, with the mass slaughter of the emigrant party by the Iron County district of the Utah Territorial Militia and some local Native Americans.

The wagon train—composed almost entirely of families from Arkansas—was bound for California on a route that passed through the Utah Territory during a turbulent period later known as the Utah War. After arriving in Salt Lake City, the Baker–Fancher party made their way south, eventually stopping to rest at Mountain Meadows. While the emigrants were camped at the meadow, nearby militia leaders, including Isaac C. Haight and John D. Lee, made plans to attack the wagon train. The militia, officially called the Nauvoo Legion, was composed of Utah's Mormon settlers (members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or LDS Church). Intending to give the appearance of Native American aggression, their plan was to arm some Southern Paiute Native Americans and persuade them to join with a larger party of their own militiamen—disguised as Native Americans—in an attack.

I had a friend about 20 years ago, we were 20. She was what we call"jack" Mormon. Which means they dont follow the Mormon rules. They do things like have sex, drink coffee and alcohol etc. She was getting married to a "good" Mormon, who was 24 and a virgin, never touched a drop of anything forbidden. In order to marry him she had to go to counseling sessions at the church 3 times a week for 6 months before they would allow her to get married in the temple. I've also heard some VERY cultish behavior that goes on in those ceremonies, but it is so secretive, a Mormon who was less than perfect had to go through counseling for 6 months before they would approve her, I guess that means brainwashing.
Anyway, that's not even what scares me. She was pretty open about her religion and I asked her why they had to have the two years supply of food. She said there was some prophecy which stated we would have a Mormon for a president and there would be a civil war as he moved Mormons to positions of power in the government. She said even then they were actively trying to put Mormons in government and leadership positions so this can be attained.
I thought it was pretty scary, but to a 20 year old mind it seemed so far fetched, but here we are. I truly hope people start researching what Mormonism is all about, and not just the whitewashed version they let the rest of us see.
