While we can look back with 20/20 and see so clearly how it all started, the truth is, there were so many various factors at play that not one single thing sparked the Civil War. Think about it seriously... What event and or initiative could unite such a divided nation? We are so apathetic and passionless now that I feel it is 100% impossible to have another Civil War. Please don't fall for the BS party line that the Civil War was about slavery, because guess what, it wasn't. Slavery was merely the 'straw that broke the camels back' the true reasons for the war had been brewing for literally 90 years. Since the very start of the Union. From the God Damn start the South and the North had varying opinions on how to run the nation. Once industry gave the North the freedom it hadn't had previously, once the North no longer had to have the south, it was only a matter of time. The South were fighting for what they believed to be a better course for our government. The North resisted in order to maintain the union as designed by our forefathers. So, you can list out the warning signs for the next 75 years, still doesn't mean we're headed for another one. So what's your answer? What unifying ideal could mobilize a single group of Americans against another group? It won't be class based, as the poor have no access to arms. It won't be race based, as the minorities are to complacent to give a shit. There is nothing that could cause a new Civil War. Nothing. It. Won't. Happen. For one simple fucking reason. It can't happen again. The only reason it went down the way it did the first time was simply due to the smaller size of the US military and the fact that each unit in the South defected along with their neighbors. You wouldn't have that this time, as the military is far more connected and powerful and as a result, the populace would NEVER be given a chance to rise up.
