Nuclear Power Plants are nothing more than a steam engine how modern is that?Would you say that is 20th century?

Maybe they should open a few steel mills closer to the coal mines.

I'm from Ohio, and I agree with stopping the war on coal! It takes an awful lot of wind and solar to replace just one gigawatt coal generating plant. I'm ok with replacing coal WITH A PLAN. Obama and the EPA want to just shut it down, let the rates skyrocket and screw the states that depend on coal now.

Is that why Obama invested 5 billion dollars in clean coal tech? Murry the owner of that mine invested nothing.

Thanks to the Obama led ‘war on coal’; “If Obama is re-elected he will put us all out of work permanently.”

Jobs or the environment...

Hmm, that's a tough call.

Not even good jobs a that! Who the fuck wants to be a coal miner anyways? Perhaps the right thing to do is offer retraining programs and get these people into other fields of work... if we were smart we would pursue Thorium as a source of fuel and that would open up valuable rare earth mines(creating jobs) which are currently not mined BECAUSE of the thorium content! It's considered a hard to handle toxic waste and any rare earth deposits with too much of it (which are most of them) are not mined.

I am so sick of hearing about advancements in technology and environmental concerns being blocked just because some people will lose their jobs!!! These thing will balance back out and we as a whole will be better for it! Dock workers are another example... we still use inefficient slow manual cranes where as other countries have it fully automated. When their ships come here a huge line forms cause our shit is so slow at unloading... only reason we don't upgrade is because crane workers will lose their jobs!! We see this kind of shit at all levels... take legalizing weed. Many in the DEA would lose their jobs because their numbers were bloated in the past to fight the war on drugs... not only that we would have fewer in jail that is vastly become a valuable cheap labor source.

Perhaps these jobs would not be so important if the overall cost of living is lowered by implementing technological advancements? Did you know that some time ago laundry machines were invented that use no detergent? Bubbles are created sonically which does the same job as soap! You know why we don't see this tech today? BECAUSE OF ALL THE JOBS AND PROFITS THAT WOULD BE LOST BY THE CHEMICAL INDUSTRY!!! ..but imagine how that would impact our cost of living expenses and reduce our dependence on environmentally harmful compounds? Apparently it's not worth it to change. Lets just keep everything the same forever and never advance anything to make it easier or cheaper. Lets only pursue things that more money can be made on. Who cares about people anyways? ...and fuck the earth! It's our children that have to live here not us! SO WHO THE FUCK CARES!

rant

THORIUM!!!

Right now CHINA has the corner on the rare earth market which is used in electronics production. They at first exported it cheaply to increase dependence and now they are restricting imports forcing companies to go over there for production. It isn't just about cheap labor but cheap raw materials too! China has also recently decided to aggressively pursue thorium liquid salt reactors after the Fukushima.

Why aren't we doing the same? Thorium is safer, cleaner and ALOT cheaper then conventional nuclear reactors. The only reason we aren't switching over is because it is not a "proven technology"!! Only reason for this is from the reluctance of those making tons of money in the uranium(valued similar to platinum) nuclear energy industry to invest in a full scale reactor... something can not be proven until it is first tried!!

So I agree... we need to upgrade the nuclear industry as well and open up our rare earth deposits so we can at least try to compete with China here at home.

Coal Mining is 19th Century.
As a people, we have to develop
beyond this anachronistic energy source.
It is dirty, deadly, ugly, and unnecessary.

These hicks need to find other work.
They need to stop clinging on to coal mining
just because their gran pappy and his gran pappy
did it.

They got a program here in WV, thanks to Sen. Manchin, where they can get up to $5000 to retrain in another field if miners get dislocated. It's not like they won't find work I'd they lose their coal jobs. Nothing but fear mongering from the right.

Yep, 5B for clean coal. If you say so. I pay about 8 cents per kwh right now and Ohio is a net exporter of electricity. In two years, I will pay a lot more for electricity, and Ohio will be a net importer of electricity. This is entirely due to coal fired generating plants being shut down. No one gives a shit what happens when they are shut down, just shut them down.

Obama and his EPA minions is waging war on a way of life, with no replacement planned. Oh yea, green energy. That is really working well, isn't it?

We need coal.

Really? In a closed and shuttered coal mining town? They'll find work that pays as well?

That's amusing. In gold mining country the average wage is probably $30 hr. If you don't work for the mining industry the wage is probably less than $10 hr.

So how does your smug certainty stack up to these facts?

Its morans like yourself that put us all under the thumb of the Goberment thugs. Why do you think we do not have alternatives ? (You say because we have to develop technologies) how fucking stupid is this statement ? The Gobermant is trying to protect the dollar. The dollar is backed by oil (Petrodollar) and is the worlds reserve currency. If it loses these atributes it will die. Why do you think they have been preaching Green for over 40 years while at the same time making sure it fails time and time again ???????????????
Why do they increase MPG standards at a rate of .05 mile per year when cars in Europe get twice to almost three times the mileage ????????????????????????????????
Why do we not use our vast Natural Gas reserves ?????????????????????? Why do they want to shit on coal ??????????????????????????????

WHY !

Are you ready for it dumb dumb ??????????????

Because the dollar breaths on Oil
Because Taxes from fuel and oil feed the machine
Because the money printers export inflation through oil imports through the reserve currency system.

Get it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So stop your stupid assed talk of getting past this anachronistic energy source "OIL" because they wont let us !

Do you get it yet ?

grinning

I think the market has probably caused the greenies to fail. No one wants to pay a hundred dollars for ten cents of electricity two hours a day. If "they" are truly buggy whip manufacturers "they" will go under.
