Hello World User ID: 22852152 United States 10/21/2012 03:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | How come no complaints about the unfunded Bush tax cuts that added to the deficit? Alleged waste in food stamps at least does not kill or maim people (unlike Iraq and Afghanistan wars). Kind of puts it in a different perspective, huh? The poster may have never missed a meal and does not understand what it must be like to live on food stamps alone. |

Nostalgic Rain User ID: 2282120 United States 10/21/2012 04:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I don't see how these people supposedly do this. Its just not possible. Quoting: natasha77 Sure, its possible to buy $200 worth of lobsters from the supermarket tank, but then that's a big mistake because they will have to eat shit the rest of the month. I'm just not getting it. Its because they are so used to the handout - they dont have to, like those of us to pay for our food ourselves, stick to a budget and make the food budget last all month. The can blow their 500-600+ on crap, then when it runs out by mid month or so, use the cash benefits they most likely get, or as I've seen people do around here - hit all 3 of the foods shelves in this county - all about 25 or so minutes apart from each other. Not kidding - they cant afford their own food but can pay for the gas to do that?? That's how people do it here, it's sickening. When I was in middle school my mom was a single mother of 5 ,we had food stamps. And sure people spend it on shit, but who cares your tax money is still going to go to shit anyway. Mind your business people really need the help, so fuck off and worry about other things besides what people are eating, FFS. I don't think people are mad about what someone else is eating. The point is there are alot of fucked things people are doing with their food stamps. I am in a town that is surrounded by people on foodstamps that sale their foodstamps. They do go in stores and buy steaks and lobster and then sale them for cash to other people or smaller businesses around. I have a neighbor who buys foodstamps every month of the same people. It's sad because we know for a fact this couple sales their foodstamps for drug money. I just wonder how their kids eat. |

The store I mentioned - they just put whatever the person buys under the food category in the register so no tax is added, and so the system *thinks* its food. It continues... Quoting: Saddletramp [link to thenewamerican.com] In reality, food stamp receipts were allowed to count their growing costs as a medical expense, thereby potentially getting maybe $11 more in food stamps if the saved all their miracle grow receipts. Patients had to take all receipts to their social worker, then they got a small amount of credit on medical expenses. Needless to say this was time consuming and difficult for both patients and social workers. This program has now been suspended. [link to www.oregonlive.com] "Oregon and two other states will no longer allow certain food stamp applicants to deduct medical marijuana expenses from their incomes after federal officials threatened the states with penalties" "In determining whether a family is poor enough to receive food stamps, Oregon allows applicants to deduct medical expenses from their incomes. Since voters legalized the use of marijuana for medicinal use in 1998, the state has counted the cost associated with obtaining medical marijuana as a qualifying medical expense. Only elderly or permanently disabled Oregonians who qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance could claim the deductions." |

Quoting: Factual Error "Medicare abuse and fraud like this costs taxpayers tens of billions of dollars every year. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or C.M.S., estimated that in 2010, the two programs together made more than $65 billion in improper federal payments." They are not air ferns who subsist on nothing. Some find work quickly and some not, there are 100 variables in individual cases. I for one do not DO NOT resent my fellows in legitimate need. You guys are relying on very old FS/welfare standards which are now defunct. Kaput. 60 months of assistance PER LIFETIME is the limit. Welfare queens and kings are no longer. One adult can received 130.00 per month avg is the top. $32.50 per week. I don't appreciate watching the few who abuse the system as is the case in every venue you can name, when the many are attempting to feed their families while they look for work. Whether or not the work stipulation remains as it has for 15 years already, still the limit of assistance is 60 months per lifetime. Quit beating up on blameless people who happen to have legit reasons for needing help. And no I am not a welfare recipient. I am so sick of this vicious tendency in people to attack others so they can feed off and indulge the lowest ego instinct possible. Try being reasonable and decent for once. That's the kind of society we NEED urgently. |
