Plain and simple anyone can understand. Bad guys don't follow the law. Good guys do. You pass a law (that good guys follow) to ban guns. Bad guys don't care. Then both bad and good guys get the same punishment for owning a gun. Logically this makes no sense.

Any law abiding person is MOST likely not going to use guns to kill, rob, or commit other crimes. However its the bad guys that DONT follow the law that are committing these violent crimes with guns.

How is creating a law which bans guns going to stop the bad guy that doesn't follow the law? This whole idea about banning guns will never work..unless... The punishment is death. Get caught owning a gun, you die. Id would say no one would own a gun then huh?

People would still have guns.. Murder can be punishable with the death penalty, but we still see people getting murdered. In fact there are some studies that show the death penalty makes no difference to the murder rate at all, and that is why some want the death penalty abolished.

I can honestly say I can understand the banning assault rifle arguement, not that I agree, I can understand and that is a good debate.
 Quoting: novamom

I'm glad someone understands it, because I sure as hell don't. Look up the statistics...only a small percentage of all firearm-related homicides (around 5%) are committed where the perpetrator used a rifle of any kind, to include single-shot, lever action, bolt action, and semi-automatic rifles (of which so-called 'assault rifles' fall into the last category).

There are literally more people killed riding bicycles every year in the US than are killed in homicides involving a rifle of any kind.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17478519

I only can see their point of view and why they would think that way, I do not agree with it, I think it's silly.
Many find the looks of them more intimidating and in many cases they are associated with gangs. Opposers also seem to think rifles are only used for hunting and think there is no need to have a semi automatic rifle; they do not see the sport of target shooting.

The environment has a lot to do with it also. You will always find more gun violence in lower income areas. Its true. Unfortunately the more dependent a person is on government aid the more they are likely to take what they want by force.

If I were to give you enough money to live a decent life, would you have a job? Once you stop giving handouts this whole mentality changes. Then you start to see people become educated. They will know and respect the value of money. In turn follow the law. They will be less likely to commit crimes. THEN can be responsible to own a gun, without some law telling them they cant.

Im from the Chicago area. I see this happening. Its not hard to see the trend here.

Yes, our country has gotten out of hand with the handouts! And I dare any crazy liberal to even argue with me about the reason they need a handout is because there are no jobs! You are right, there aren't enough jobs to go around, but I don't blame the republicans for sending jobs overseas.. I blame the GREEDY UNIONS who want everything in the world for 8 hours of work. Our country doesn't manufacture anything because we have to pay people $30 an hour plus full benefits to work on an assembly line!! rant

I can hear it now.. tomorrow we are going to hear all of the idiots saying "guns are bad" because of the shooting in Wisconsin. Maybe if one of the ladies was carrying, not as many people would have been shot! Obummer will be using this example for why he sides with the UN's gun tready.

40 Reasons To Ban Guns

1. Banning guns works, which is why New York , DC , Detroit & Chicago cops need guns.

2. Washington DC 's low murder rate of 69 per 100,000 is due to strict gun control, and Indianapolis ' high murder rate of 9 per 100,000 is due to the lack of gun control.

3. Statistics showing high murder rates justify gun control but statistics showing increasing murder rates after gun control are "just statistics."

4. The Brady Bill and the Assault Weapons Ban, both of which went into effect in 1994 are responsible for the decrease in violent crime rates, which have been declining since 1991.

True, and it shows what gun owners are up against: most of the anti's are misinformed and simply have no idea what they're talking about. They have no idea how the average, law abiding gun owner uses his or her firearm. In fact, they usually know nothing about either guns or gun owners that didn't come from TV shows, movies, a dimwitted politician or an equally dimwitted TV news reporter.

I guess in a sense I can't blame them. They're simply ignorant, in the classical meaning of the word, and that ignorance allows them to be easily led by the fearmongers in the media and politics.

Guns are dangerous and people use them to kill other people and animals, but that's the idea right? people want to have the capability to kill things. We tried that. It didn't work so well.

The proof is in the statistics. The US homicide rate has been roughly cut in half in the last 20 years, despite skyrocketing gun sales and the widespread passage of concealed carry laws.

Actually its not. The price is so overblown to execute. Jails make money. If you have less people in jail the less money is being made. Thats why it costs more. But really its the illusion so the jail population gets higher. You cant be serious that some synthesized chemical that is made in large doses would cost (in cali 50k per year per person, 50 years in jail, pretty short for 2 life terms.) Thats 2.5 million dollars!! no f in way that this drug costs that much. Im sure 1 vial cost 12 bucks. Lets be realistic now.

I can see that maybe. But the whole process is drawn out so the person sits in jail. That means more money. Thats just how it is. The more prisoners you have the more personal you have to hire. The bigger budget you get. The USA is ranked #1 with the most prisoners IN THE WORLD. If you took china out. We would trump all other countries combined. SO if you look at this based on stats it would look like the USA has the most violent people in the world right?...no

Re: 40 Reasons To Ban Guns.. (edit..This is a PRO GUN THREAD, actually read it before commenting)
Commentary by Paul Harvey:

"Are you considering backing gun control laws???"

Do you think that because you may not own a gun, the
rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment don't
matter?

CONSIDER THIS...
In 1929 the Soviet Union established gun control.
- From 1929 to 1953, approximately 20 million
dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded
up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control.
- From 1915-1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to
defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938.
- From 1939 to 1945, 13 million Jews, gypsies,
homosexuals, the mentally ill, and others, who were
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935.
- From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964.
- From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to
defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970.
- From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to
defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956.
- From 1975 to 1977, one million "educated" people,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated.

That places total victims who lost their lives because
of gun control at approximately 56 million in the last
century.

Since we should learn from the mistakes of history,
the next time someone talks in favor of gun control,
find out which group of citizens they wish to have
exterminated.

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in
Australia were forced to surrender 640,381 personal
firearms to be destroyed, a program costing the
government more than $500 million dollars.
- The results Australia-wide; Homicides are up 3.2%,
Assaults are up 8 %, and Armed robberies are up 44%.
In that country's state of Victoria, homicides with
firearms are up 300%.

Over the previous 25 years, figures show a steady
decrease in armed robberies and Australian politicians
are on the spot and at a loss to explain how no
improvement in "safety" has been observed after such
monumental effort and expense was successfully
expended in "ridding society of guns."

It's time to state it plainly; Guns in the hands of
honest citizens save lives and property and, yes,
gun-control laws only affect the law-abiding citizens.
Take action before it's too late, write or call your
delegation.

Its cheaper to let them rot in jail for the rest of their lives than execute the death penalty.
 Quoting: novamom

Actually its not. The price is so overblown to execute. Jails make money. If you have less people in jail the less money is being made. Thats why it costs more. But really its the illusion so the jail population gets higher. You cant be serious that some synthesized chemical that is made in large doses would cost (in cali 50k per year per person, 50 years in jail, pretty short for 2 life terms.) Thats 2.5 million dollars!! no f in way that this drug costs that much. Im sure 1 vial cost 12 bucks. Lets be realistic now.

I should have worded it differently.. when I said execute the death penalty, I was meaning the entire process, including the appeals and years in jail. I did not mean the injections themselves.

The process is drawn out much to long. Dragging it out not only makes money for private prisons, the lawyers, and any other money hunger person involved. CA three strike law is a bit dumb.. (do they still have that?) Thats a law made for the money hungry rich.

americans will be forced to trade their guns for food in the future.
Katrina proved americans will give up their guns very easily.

I know, how aweful was that. Maybe new gun owners should be required to take a class.. on their rights.

1 reason to ban guns. SAVE LIVES.

End of discussion. Thank you.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19976094

Actually it's been shown time and time again that banning guns costs far more lives than allowing guns. Read your history! Banning guns from the public is a preparation for a police state. An unarmed public is a lot easier to control.

Isnt it funny that many from countries that were saved by american guns from speaking japanese or german are in the forefront of wanting what saved them before from being available when the muzzies decide to extend their caliphate.

I can honestly say I can understand the banning assault rifle arguement, not that I agree, I can understand and that is a good debate.
 Quoting: novamom

Not really... We need assault rifles for when they try to take away our other guns. Well armed civilians can keep a government in check.

Sounds like you just might be anti gun ban :) If you can find a way to get the guns out of the hands of the bad guys without a gun ban law. Im all for it.
