My mother just called me and told me that soup was on sale at our local grocery store too, really cheap.

We have never talked about soup before.......lol, don't even like soup.

Extreme couponing. It's Sunday remember.

Hmmm, could be, however most couponers have to take time to plan the trip and wouldn't go the first day. Not to say that's NOT the case, but just adding a thought.
Soup and canned food have been going on closeout around the stores where I live- I've thought it strange how many successful brands have been on 'closeout'

Some areas have severe weather moving in too. A friend in PA is expecting heavy snow within a week or so. Maybe some people are doing some last minute prep work.

Or extreme couponing.. *shudder*

people buy by bulk all the time and you say the soup was on sale well people even buy more when stuff is on sale

I'm from the Pittsburgh area, and it's supposed to be 70 and sunny every day this week. Zero precipitation.

They have quiet a few items on the 10 for $10 sale this week.The sale started today.I always wait till mid week because everyone runs to the store on the first day and cleans everything out.

I'm in Ga and no snow or bad weather here.
The local Kroger has the Chunky soup 4 for 5 bucks.
It's a bargain so yeah, people will stock up.

Yea no shit, im from MI and ZERO snow coming in any direction. rain latter in the week, but no snow temps in the 60s and 70s

May also be a pre-election day ploy too... I noticed the prices in Price Chopper were pretty good today and gas prices were down .10c a gal. also ... below $4.00 which I haven't seen in awhile!

no need for the eye roll - you may not like these threads, but i do. It gives me a heads up sometimes of what might be on the way in my area. I first head on one of these threads that bacon would be going up in price, and sure enough not long after it did here. Luckily I had the foresight to find a way to get a freezer full of bacon at the old price. Can you believe $5.99 for a package of bacon??!!
Not all these food price threads have good info, but enough do that I check them all out. Might save me a few bucks if I can beat a price increase at my local stores.

One thing I couldn't believe was the apple cider was $6.99 a gallon ... I almost fainted!

When the prices rise the best policy is to cut yours so you can make room for the more expensive stock? Somehow that doesn't sound right.

Did the price of MSG go up for Campbells?

I think it has to do with a bunch of things...

Usually the sale/cheaper prices are from the product company... Have a sale/lower prices you rotate stock faster and you get better product placement, you'll always see the sale item on the end of the aisles in the main aisle...
and in doing so, may get new product users and it doesn't hurt to have a tax write off for end of the year loses bringing down prices! ... Just my take on it!
