OMG Incredible 3D Fractals!

the program is so powerful it can curn out 200+ mega pixel images of a fractal in just a few seconds.
For some reason though it wont store as a jpeg so the disk space usage is crazy.

Can you make a Youtube video of them and we could see them that way? I love fractals!!

I'm not sure how they are done--I've seen stills and animations--fractals are awesome and I believe a great representation of reality, or as we like to say here the "Rabbit Hole".

I'd rather go out and see them in the nature. But that's just me.

I just wanted to get my images out first.

This FREE opensource program i think deserves a damn pin!

its called FRAGMENTARIUM.

Its outrageously easy to use, tons of examples pre loaded.

It uses open CL to harness the power of your graphics card which is a LOT faster than your CPU.

a few tips,

rather than telling it to output a highresolution multi megapixel file, just adjust the fractal to how you want it on screen, then take a screen shot and crop it down. save as jpeg. and youre done.


At the top, select render mode continuous, this means it will keep adding detail as it goes(like updating the images all the time in the background)

The download is pretty easy to find. or it should be.

tell you what some of the images that pop up are spooky,, skulls, buddhas, da vinci man, seem to appear out of the fractals.

worked fine for me.



more tips, if you see missing detail in your fractal try increasing the "maxraysteps" and or the "fudgefactor" perameters.

above all EXPERIMENT to get the hang of it.

to get the depth of field camera focus effect, you need to look in the raytracer parameters, and on the Aperture settings give it a very tiny amount, something like 0.007
and then play with the "focal plane" settings.

Make sure you set render mode to continuous and very importantly have the subframe number set high like 500 or 1000. if you set it to 0 it will keep rendering forever.
