is this another 'shake the shorts' as far as PMs are concerned? BTFD?

Did S&P500 drop 15% yet, per |indseee vvilliams time line?

Is this week's FOMC meeting leaking out info about a 1% increase in rates?

Is doom on or off :-/

Thanks!

I watched a little financial TV today. I am not smart about this stuff, but basically people want to invest in things that return the most money possible back. the problem is that there are so many more people trying figure out what investments will return money than people actually making the things that return money.

They also said housing should recover as soon as the genY folks start wanting to buy homes and start families. they are the new boomer generation that will eventually get consumption going. and we can have 30 years of growth.

Well there you go! We don't make anything of value anymore. Investing in Facebook stock? What the hell is that?! On top of that nonsense 70% of trading is done by high frequency trading (HFT) algorithyms. Yep, all decisions made by computers in milliseconds time. Anyone who invests in the stock market is a fool. Or has access to insider trading information I suppose.

But they also said basically that the central bank prints money and pumps it into the economy in two ways. one is through investment banks, who "underwrite" things like facebook. The other way is through government spending for both the rich and the poor. The poor get cellphones, the rich get to keep building, servicing, and maintaining the same number of aircraft carriers as we had ironclads during WW1. some of it goes to companies like solyndra who build a factory, set up pensions, excutive golden umbrellas and then immediately close down before even making a product.

They said to think about the money system like this....

Think of it as a hot day and somebody unleashed a fire hydrant. (printing press)
1) nobody is going to call to have it turned off.
2) the water is cool and free.
3) you will have to force your way amongst others to get the cooler unsoiled stuff, but it can be largely not combative.
4) if you dont try to consume it, even just a little bit, you will not feel as good as those who are. they can out compete you when the water is eventually turned off, or if there is a fire you all need to run from because there is no water presure 3 blocks away when somebody tries to put out a tiny fire with a hose that does not work.

So yeah you gotta invest in facebook. it was underwritten, which means this is how money is injected into the system. somebody decided it has value. Even if it doesn't ... eventually the insiders will let the lightly soiled money into the economy. they said on the shows "dont fight the fed."

We can't fight the Fed they're above the law. Greenspan admitted that a long time ago. And since Bernankacide said that they have no other tools than QE to infinity we're screwed.

The money doesn't go to the average American. Banks aren't lending. They're still hoarding the money so they can speculate in the stock market and maintain the illusion of solvency.

They talked about that too. the fed may be above the law, but they do have to answer to a committee of member banks. its kinda like a democracy of the printing press. the member banks are run by smart people called investment bankers. these folks are usually the children of elected officials like bill clinton and mitt romney, so the government does have some oversight, even if it is indirect.

When congress has hearings, the fed chairman always tells them, it is important to have an independent federal reserve. and that is usually a sufficient answer. if it was me I would come up with a formula and say "this is why we do what we do."
