Why the warning on garlic capsules?
I bought some garlic capsules, thought they'd be good for me, but when I looked at the container it gave a warning not to take them if you're taking warfarin or other blood-thinning medication. Not that I am, but I do have low blood pressure and anaemia, so I wouldn't want my blood to be thinned.

Is this due to garlic in general, or the other crap that comes with the capsules - 'glycerol, silicone dioxide, triglycerides, sunflower lecithin"? Advice appreciated.

Just wanted to add that I eat roasted garlic by the clove all the time, have low blood pressure, and have yet to drop dead.

Garlic can potentiate the effects of blood thinners such coumadin. Fish oil can have the same effect. It doesn't mean that they (the man, the Illuminutty, Freemason, Rand Corp Ninjas) are not saying you 'can't' take them.

It's just a fucking precaution.

Because it can exaggerate the activity of meds that inhibit the action of platelets and can increase the risk of bleeding in people taking blood thinners. The entire allium family is toxic to many animals.

Some herbs are not good with certain meds. It's why I cringe each time I read, "it's natural. Take as much as you want. It won't hurt you," without knowing the meds a person is on, or their history.

Good for you for noticing, and for asking questions.

Because doctors assume that people are lazy. They could put people on a diet filled with natural blood thinners, such as garlic. Instead they feed people rat poison.

Garlic has many benefits however, it does act like an anti-coagulant agent and you will need to contact your doctor if you are taking any medications or are scheduled for surgery.

Fresh garlic is superior to commercial capsules, especially for the antibiotic effect.

Thanks. I didn't know that about garlic. Think I might give it a miss.
