ISP, if i walk in on my young teenager watching porn on the internet then am i responsible for not blocking every pornographic site in the world or is it the ISP who ALLOWS it to be broadcast straight into my home unregulated that is responsible.
I know that if i do not allow my child to watch TV after 9 then due to the watershed i will never expose them to material that we collectively find unsuitable for their eyes or ears, so why does my ISP not get regulated in the same manner ? My teenager cannot just walk into any newspaper outlet and buy a porn magazine as the shop owner is ultimately responsible, not the teenager. The same can be said about selling alcohol to underagers, is it the child breaking the law for attempting to get their hands on it or is it the Shop owner for willingly putting it in their hands.

is it the station's fault for putting on unsuitable material after 9pm?

no, the convention is you as a parent are aware of the 9pm issue & take appropriate steps.

just as its the convention that you as a parent are aware of the unsuitable material on the internet & install appropriate software to mediate your teenager's connection.

If i am not aware because i am not tech savvy ? i just thought the internet was for shopping and facebook, never knew there was those kind of sites out there, they willingly allow these kinds of sites on a service they provide... ISP = Internet service provider.

even on facebook someone could say or post something inappropriate, thats the isp's fault too?

you use glp but "couldnt imagine" there's inappropriate sites on the internet?

My god you are what we say in The land of the Picts, thick as pig shit. You never had a response really did you, maybe they should change the name from Internet Service Providers.

They are responsible for everything coming through their servers for without it i would have no internet to go shopping, illegally or legally.

Would you steal from a store?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23917036

How fucking stupid are you? Did you have a brain injury as a child?
How fucking retarded do you have to be, to realize that if you take something from a store without paying for it.
They lose "the thing" itself?
And that copying a song and listening to it, because you don't WANT to buy it, is NOT stealing it?
You haven't removed anything from the person who made the song, they still have the ability to sell it.
Is it a crime that you chose not to buy their song?
You are seriously one fucked up lunatic retard to believe such crap.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25894429

stealing from a store: you take an object off the shelf, put in your pocket, and walk out. that is stealing.

but, if someone made 1,578,343 copies of that item on the shelf (and it is still on the shelf) and offered the copies for free to anybody who wants one, and you took one...

would that be stealing?

no.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21984351

No stealing is taking someones property without their permission.
There has to be actual property, not "intellectual property" whatever the fuck that even is.
Many people put things in their pockets and legitimately forget and walk out, that's why they provide those little hand baskets now.
Offering the copies for free in a COMMERCIAL setting is a crime.
Offering them for free in PRIVATE, person to person, peer to peer, is not.
This is why under the intellectual property laws, (Whatever the fuck that even is), people have to sue other people to claim damages.
Because there is no actual property, so it is not stealing.
Remember back in the old days, one kid would buy an album a cassette tape, and 10 other kids would tape it?
This is no different, just the medium used to do it.
And it is still not illegal, this big great myth, or propaganda campaign has been spewed since time began.

Now take torrents for example, this is not even as bad as taping someones cassette tape.
Because I download a small piece of the song from a guy in Poland, a small piece of the song from a guy in Canada, etc etc and so on.
None of those people give me the whole song, and, the piece I download off each of them, is UNUSABLE.
Yep that's right, I cant hear it, its a piece of data which is unusable without the other pieces.
Which I have to download off OTHERS.

The warning you see on the start of movies, the FBI one, refers specifically to criminal infringement, copying and SELLING the works.
The greedy shill pigs of course neglect to leave the rest of the legal text OUT of it though, to scare people.

you clearly don't understand how the internet works, you said yourself you are not tech savvy. if you expect your isp to check EVERY SINGLE page of EVERY SINGLE website for something you deem inappropriate for your teenager to view then there would be no internet for the public because no single company has those kinds of resources.

you'd have more lucky counting grains of sand on a beach that every single word/image/sound/video on the internet.

i would suggest you either educate yourself or stop attacking people who try to help you understand.

(CNN) -- It is about to get a bit more difficult to illegally download TV shows, movies or music online.

A new alert system, rolling out over the next two months, will repeatedly warn and possibly punish people violating digital copyrights. The Copyright Alert System was announced last July and has been four years in the making.

If you use AT&T, Cablevision, Comcast, Time Warner, or Verizon as your Internet service provider, you could receive the first of one of these notes starting in the next two months.

porn companies are among the most agressive pursuers of copyright violators...

porn companies do not have much merchandising or other revenue streams - at least the old fashioned ones do not.

Re: Internet providers to begin warning customers who pirate content
come on, It has its benefits to these artists as well. Lets take a music artist for example. its free advertisement, free distribution on a much bigger scale then any large record company could do physically. That is of course if the music is good. Stealing? nahh, . I know even in my own case that i've gone out and purchased something only after hearing it first on the web. If your music sucked , well that just keeps me from buying your crappy album.

"The trick of making Monty Python videos available for free online has boosted DVD sales of the comedy sketch show. If you compare DVD sales figures on Amazon before and after the creation of the Monty Python YouTube channel, the boost apparently tallies in at around 23,000%."

I read that there are basically 6 steps to this program. All warning/educational. There is no seventh step, because the companies have no intention of going beyond simple warnings. It will deter a fair number of people even if there is no actual penalty stage.,
