Re: Addicted to MMORPGs
Want to know how I get over mmorpgs? Play nothing but mmorpgs until you can't stand them anymore. I'm in Guild Wars 2 right now and I only play a few hours a week, 1-2 days a week now. It just gets old because I burnt myself out on them. Even new games don't really have that spark anymore.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20816248

I have a gamefly account and I usually just play a game an hour a day until it's done (usually takes me a month per game) and send it back. I am however playing it a little more to try to catch up on Assassin's Creed before part 3 comes out.

I think I couild probably keep my playing time at a healthy level. Is it ok to play MMOs then? I do actually get tired of them. I am burnt out from 24/7 everquest, then after that 24/7 WoW
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25749597

I find myself hating MMOs. Every time I log in a friend pesters me to do something with them and I really don't want to. So I make some excuse and log out. So I know what you mean.

Try Skyrim. It's a single player MMO, but it bored me to tears mechanically. I still play it just to wander around. Fallout 3 and NV are good. I got the former for $20 for Xbox with all the add-ons off of Amazon.
 Quoting: Leslie Zevo

Played many hours of skyrim last year. Definatley bored of it now.

2 years ago I tried to get back into WoW... but it bored the hell out of me.

maybe if i tried an mmo now, i'd be feeling the same way? MAybe I am addicted to those memories of killing hill giants in everquest, and raiding molten core in WoW. Something I will never feel again. just memories. nothing else.

The sense of wonder is gone for me. that is what got me before.

sorry I am having trouble articulating myself this morning, I am highly anxious and have had too much coffee. another addiction.

Re: Addicted to MMORPGs
I only found one MMO that was worth a damn in all these years. When I did I stuck with it for 8 years!

Was the only MMO that wasn't a constant grind, the only MMO where I felt like I had true freedom and could actually be a Hero.

I speak of course of the seminal City of Heroes franchise.

I spent 8 amazing years slugging it out with vilains and creating unique concepts.

Sadly, NCsoft being the idiots they are, have killed my only MMO.

After 9 years of great gaming, the City of Heroes servers will go offline forever November 30th. redface

With that, my time MMOing comes to an end.

I hate this "going outside" notion. People who "go outside" usually do it for some stupid shit. Normal people go to work or the grocery store or whatever. Idiots "go outside", get drunk, behave like an idiot and think it makes them street smart.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 525676

I go outside in nature. I build things, plant things, exercise...

Not a city life for me. Been there done that.

No worries, it was a great ride. Never thought I'd spend nearly a decade with one game but the community and the freedom of creation made it worth sticking around.

I was never 'hardcore' being more of a casual player, spending about an hour or so every few days.

In truth, it's kind of a blessing that it's over. As I was 23 when I started playing and am now a 32 year old, with much less time or desire than before.

I think maybe it has something to do with hitting your 30s. Child like wonder and desire dissapearing.

I went out once, the graphic was nice but gameplay and storyline was awful.
But if you dont want to feel like a weirdo whos wasting life playing online games, you should probably try to go with social acceptable behavior like getting wasted and high.

Re: Addicted to MMORPGs
I played WoW for 4 years, and i quit that like 1,5 years ago. Then i didn't play any until 1 year ago when i started playing Minecraft, and now i've bought Diablo III. I get addicted so easily and i get very competitive.

It all started with Counter Strike Beta 3. We were about to be the first team in Swe going pro, but the clan was disbanded right before that. This happened right before high school, and thank f*ck for that! After that i get really sucked into the games i play and that's why i'm scared to start play Diablo III. hiding

Re: Addicted to MMORPGs
"Go outside"?!

For fucking what?

Is my hyperdrive capable 8000 ton cargo bay spaceship parked out there?
Is my 200 strong guild of monster killing warriors waiting for me to join them to battle a dragon?

"Outside" yeah, fuck that, you're not fooling me... I've seen what's out there, clean up your shithole of a world first, then maybe I'd want to spend more time in it.

Until then I'll bask in the adoration of thousands as I strut my endgame gear during peak on the busy server.

Me, my cheetos, my sprite and a mayo jar half full of urine riding off on grand adventure on my epic level mount (looted, not cash shop tyvm, cash shop is for losers with lives who are too busy "outside" to play the game properly).

An mmo is not a game, it is an alternative existence, a better world where people judge you on the level of your gear and the wit of your Global Chat banter, not superficial shit like what you look like, what your job is and how repulsive you are to the opposite sex.

"Outside"... pfft.

Yeah right.

rofl

This was me at one time... minus the mayo jar and the bad food.

but.. if you are being serious. the real world is very discouraging.

For example. In planning my organic vegetable growing areas, it took a long time to find untouched soil. Even where I live, far from town/city there is fucking burried garbage and such everywhere.

also my fucking neighbor uses roundup right near the property line.

not to mention all the pollution comming up here from the big cities below me, and the chemtrails, and the crap floating in the ocean with my seaweed fertilizer.

Very discouraging. No matter how hard I try It seems impossible to be "all natural"

There arent enough resources around to do everything naturally. ie we don't have a blacksmith, glass makers etc etc. It is just shit. You need china plastic to get by. stupid china plastic.

Even if I could be all natural. My fucking body is so full of plastic etc: my teeth full of synthetic filling stuff, particles trapped in my colon, heavy metals in my bones...

what has this place come to.

Re: Addicted to MMORPGs
I played Runescape straight for three years, one day I decided to give it a break, I haven't been back on it since, that was three years ago.

I now kick myself at all the money I spent on memberships, all the time I spent planting/fighting/mining pixels. All for nothing.

It's a mugs game, I realised. You should.

Re: Addicted to MMORPGs
Help me!

I am addicted to MMORPGs.

I keep getting cravings to dive mindlessley into an MMO. I have been resisting them for weeks now. It will subdue me and sheeplify me. It is my weakness.

I keep trying to justify in my head why it is not bad for me. Things like: I make nice friends, It is getting too cold outside, If I find it fun, is having fun a waste of time? etc.

But i know in my heart that it probably is bad for me.

I even start thinking things like: Well this life I am in is probably just a virtual reality anyway, so why not immerse myself in a better one with swords and magic and dragons.

This world is plastic, poison and evil old men.

I have plenty of other interests. I have a farm, I do bushcraft, read, (list goes on)... but an MMORPG just seems sooo yummy right now... mmmmmm MMO.

anyone want to play one with me / help me justify why I should play?

anyone wnat to discourage me?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25749597

Nope. LOL Yea i never got into MMO's. Was alwasy into shooters. Never liked how you have to play more to level up. Luckily i only got stuck on shooters and GTA. MMOs do take up some time.

And this reality is the same as a virtual reality. And it is run by evil people. And swords and magic are waaaaaaaaay better.

Some people identify reality with it sucking ass. A lot of new people coming here identify reality with being awesome.

It certainly makes me think reality is much more awesome in other places. And those people are here to bring that awesomeness.

You do that merely by thinking it. So if playing the games makes people think it. And think "man why is this so much better than this shitty reality," i think it is purposeful.

Becuase the things people find purposeful now i dont see any purpose in either.

Cant get lost in the denial of this reality. But also dont think that everything has to suck ass and be difficult to be real or worth while. If playing these games makes people stop thinking that the world has to be shitty to be real then we might actually be moving somewhere and not evne notice it.

And of course the sheeple castigate these people sent here to redefine how reality is viewed. But they dont know any better.

I havent played video games too much as of late. Only bf3 a lil bit here and there but im sure ill get sucked back in for GTAV. Just gotta not stay sucked in forever.

I'm addicted to MMOs , have wasted a lot of time still do but, when I think about it, I didn't like anything in the real world before I started playing. Personally when I get tired of it I will stop or not. It's my life and I enjoy it.

Mind your business and do what you do, don't talk shit about people that live their life how they want.
