...so let me get this right.

The CIA makes the decision to not send in aid to possibly limit escalation or avoid being drawn into a potential trap. There is a multitude of reasons... including the typical "let it happen so we can have an excuse later to increase force deployment". Obama trusts his CIA advisers who may not have been relaying all of the information in real time to him. Who knows what he is actually told? ...but he relies on the advice on intel he is given and decided not to over ride decisions being made by the CIA.

Ok... so Obama is responsible ultimately because he is president but what makes you all think that Mitt would have done anything different based on advice given him by the CIA. What makes you think Obama was even aware of any requests for support? They were likely trying to downplay the severity of the attack and at one point had even thought the attack was over.

I point the blame at those within the chain of command and the usual bullshit political reasons for not doing something that should be reflexive. I do not blame those at the very top of the chain as they often have to rely on advisers and intel that is often delayed and incomplete.

Confusion in the chain may also likely be the cause for delayed response.

...and weren't demonstrators protesting at the same time this attack occurred? To send in forces when no clear enemy is identified may have resulted in a much larger incident involving the death of many non-combatants ...and you can only imagine what that may have escalated into. Full involvement in the region? War?

The weighting of these factors does not occur to those outside of the chain... but once you are in that seat choices such as these must be carefully considered.

Breaking news on Benghazi: the CIA spokesman, presumably at the direction of CIA director David Petraeus, has put out this statement: "No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate. ”



So who in the government did tell “anybody” not to help those in need? Someone decided not to send in military assets to help those Agency operators. Would the secretary of defense make such a decision on his own? No.

It would have been a presidential decision.

The answer is this: Jarrett wanted an October Surprise that would make Obama look like a hero prior to the elections, so they arranged to have Stevens (a close friend of Obama's) go to Benghazi where he and his military trained security detail would be taken captive by protestors that stormed the consulate because of the obscure youtube video, Obama would then coming riding to the rescue and free the Ambassador and his team to the cheers and adoration of the American electorate...

This GLP poster made this theory up a full 10 days before the freerepublic made the same speculation.

The State Department account from 10/10/2012, which I summarized above, as reported by R**ters & Foreign Policy magazine, said there was no protests outside the consulate at 9:40 (when the attack began).

The scene became a free for all with looters taking everything, but they arrived after the gun battle/fires...

I would suggest that anyone interested in the Benghazi attack read the r**ters article - it is still just about the most complete account out there...

If the CIA put out a statement like that then it is obvious all the blame lies with White House!!!!

FOX didnt invent the "kidnap Stevens, Obama to the rescue" theory. A GLP poster did. The theory that local assets in Benghazi need presidential authority to defend themselves, is pure right-wing blogosphere fantasy.
