All orgs put out press releases. This one was put out through a service in fact.

However, though the mainstream media probably gets 1000s of press releases a day, it still gets to decides which ones appear on its newsfeed / website.

Should be obvious that putting out a press release is not guarantee that anyone will ever see it, yes this is a form of censorship the mainstream media can exert, or not.

They also can choose to do a follow-up or in-depth story or not after the press release comes out, which is basically just a "tip" there is a story there.

So don't try to mislead people that the mainstream media had no choice in publishing or not publishing the story to its website. If that were true, you'd be seeing this story in every mainstream media newsfeed in existence.

They just had a story on our 6 oclock news. Police detective spoke. He did not mention a husband or father of the children.
They also said the nanny was in a stable condition. Doesn't sound like she is going to die.

The story has changed. The first version has the mother with the one child coming home to a darkened apartment, leaving to ask the doorman if they had left, returning, finding the nanny with her throat stabbed and going to get a towel to put around her throat and after that discovering the children stabbed in the bathtub.

The slashed wrists only appear in later stories IIRC. First version showed pics of the nanny on a stretcher (presumably the nanny), also mentioned father was a CNBC exec.

After the article is written it is released, which means either sent to a press release service for rerelease to mainstream media outlets (or for their information and possible follow up to the initial article or their own publication), or sent directly to mainstream media outlets.
