Just got an update. My sources said that their calculations were incorrect. The actual diameter of Comet ISON is actually more than what they had previously calculated. Recent calculations put the diameter at 1,653 kilometres.

More detailed info has been sent to me via e-mail just minutes ago. I can't divulge all of the details, but I can only share you these points:

1. Comet ISON is now located behind the Sun, therefore, we can't see it..yet.

2. It will emerge behind the Sun in a 2-3 weeks from now, and we will be able to clearly see it by November 27 2012. Since it has a diameter of 1,600+ kms and an 8 million long tail full of debris and other small rocks trailing behind it, when it passes close to Earth, some of them might be flung loose.

3. When will it pass close to Earth? Mt sources say late December 2012 or late January 2013. Closest pass from Earth would be at 0.15 AUs, or around 22 million kilometres. It will appear very bright, and look as a second-Sun in the sky, between late Dec 2012 to late Jan 2013.
