Maybe I just grew up and life got too serious with kids, house, cars and one hell of a serious corporate job.

I remember mid to late 90's being an exciting time. Exciting new electronic music. I remember listening to fascinating topics on Art Bell late at night. I remember reading Terrance Mckenna, Timothy Leary, Robert Anton Wilson. I remember chatting on IRC. I remember communities of people, online and offline. It seemed like people really connected back then.

Everything now is just platitudes. People don't connect - they're too busy. When they slow down, they don't know how to connect - either they've forgotten or they're too busy with they're latest iDevice shoved up their ass.

Music sucks now - it's all corporate bullshit.

Technology sucks - it's all been appropriated by corporations. There's no exciting frontiers left in technology anymore as corporations have outsourced all of our soul-seeking and expirimentation to other countries where people only see technology for money's sake.

This country is fucked and it's because we let it go that way.

No takers? Everyone is ok with corporate radio, bullshit satellite TV w/ nothing on it, their stupid government issued iDevice?

That's all you needed huh? Just more stupid shit on a screen to entertain you? In the meantime you traded in your ability to think for yourself.

I hear ya. Things seem to have gotten more sterile. Even in our consumerism. Fewer and fewer mom and pop, quirky, niche stores, and more and more big box conglomerates. I agree with you...I like reading, watching, studying mind-expanding topics, ideas.

I think 9/11 pulled the rug out from under a lot of these new, mind-expanding thoughts and ideas. 9/11 has dominated (especially back closer to the event) every aspect of culture, it seemed. We were inundated with it.

Yeah, Art Bell had some great shows when he hosted. He really came along at the right time with the right type of show.

Ring the Anal Bell.
Bang the Anal Gong.
Tighten the Anal Noose.

LOL Nah, Art has moved back to Pahrump, NV. with his young wife and young daughter, after having lived a few years in Manila, Philippines. Uncle Artie is back in his double wide in the desert, where he spends his Saturday afternoon mowing the single blade of grass in his rock-strewn desert front "yard", and admiring his 2 acre HAM radio antenna array.

Actually the early nineties were cool too but there was a spirit that clamped down on all that. And yes, 9/11 was the capper..

Damn you guys depress me...

Everything you are saying is so true. The 1990s were like a time of "change" (it seemed anyhow) and innovation- Today is a time of sameness (being marketed as "new") and copy cat everything.

I miss Art bell- That show was nutty as Hell but damn it was fun to listen to- AND its the only radio show I stayed up listening to some nights and used sick days at work the next day because the shit was so interesting.

- People who beleive in human greatness and achievment.
- People who hold their own in debate
- People who like to double check their point of view
