I don't smoke, but I used to like using the cigarette maker machine to cram the tobacco and filters into the tube for someone that rolled their own. Sometimes I'm easily amused.

I keep a pouch around in case I run out of tailor mades.

It's different, less chemicals and you can roll them to the thickness you want. Once you get used to them, they are better, I think.

All brands have their own flavour and it will definitely save you money.

Re: roll your own cigs??
Yep, started a year or so ago because of the ever increasing prices. I use the organic American Spirit and get the tops filters. I use a machine to roll and the tobacco is the best I've tried. You'll smoke less and once you go organic and natural all packaged cigs taste disgusting, you really notice the chemicals they add, especially the metallic taste. The organic pouch costs me about $7.49 and lasts more than a week usually but then I don't smoke much.

Pre-rolled smokes taste like shit. In the UK rolling baccy is cheaper. I wouldn't be surprised if it was less damaging. I only ever roll up about half a cigarette anyways. Much better way to smoke.

Been rolling my own for years. I've smoked for about 39 years...shit I'm getting old!!

Can't stand the taste of commercial smokes, all the chemicals. The fire retardent paper.

I use pipe tobacco. 2 years ago they raised the tax on a $15 bag of cigarrett tobacco $10 but not on the pipe tobacco.
It is the same, longer cut and moister though. I use a halogen lamp over it to dry it till it's the right dryness and I can crumble it to the consistency I like for rolling. I smoke prolly 1 1/2 packs/day. Costs me under $30 a month.
That's opposed to $150 or more a month for prefab smokes.

Re: roll your own cigs??
I do save money, but only because I smoke less. I used to smoke a pack of camel wides per day. Now I smoke three or four half cigs of hand rolled. I use organic american spirit (red pouch) and it is a little pricey, but rolls about 100 smokes a pouch.

They are less addictive, taste and smell better and more natural, give me a little buzz, and I believe they are healthier. If I smoke a prefab now my throat instantly gets sore.

I want to smoke a bidi (it's a hand rolled cigarette in a leaf, pretty popular and cheap in India and so many less chemicals) but I cannot seem to find them in the "civilized" world. Just one cheap rolled cigarette....how bloody hard can it be to find? I don't want to start up a chemical habit just to have one freaking smoke.

Ok, TTown....

I always give you shit but I'm gonna help you out here. I roll my own, costs about 80 cents a pack.

For about fifty bucks you can get started and get enough supplies for 2.5 cartons. After your initial investment, 2.5 cartons worth will cost you 15-18 bucks.

First, you need to buy a good CRANK injector. Don't fuck around with the stupid sliders, they are very time consuming. With practice, you can roll a pack in 3-5 minutes. I suggest the premier TOP-O-MATIC. They have been made for decades and are bullet proof.

Then get you some tubes. I use HOT ROD, around $1.49 for 200. They are the best and cheapest I have found.

Buy SMOOTH CUT pipe tobacco. It's the same as cigarette tobacco, just cut and taxed differently. It actually work better in the crank injector too.

A good brand is Bacco.

I smoke mild blends with light filters.

This method is far cheaper and healthier than store bought.

Let me know if you have any other questions and good luck!

Yup. Here in NY the price for ciggs and cigg tobacco is redonkuless. 10.00 for a pack,21.00 for 6 ounces of cigg tobacco. Bascally 10 bucks a day for 20 smokes. Now pipe tobacco on the other hand is 10.00 for 6 ounces. I buy a bag of pipe tobacco, seven packs of rollin papers, 23.00, Last me 2 weeks, 1.30 a day. So yes, it saves. Be better to quit, but I don't wanna spend the rest of my days wanting a smoke.
p.s. Just pull the stems outta the pipe tobacco as you roll.

Yes, I make my own.
I don't "roll," though. That's a pain in the ass.
I buy a box of cigarette tubes with filter and use a nifty little gizmo to ram the tobacco in. It's very quick and easy. Saves a ton of money and the cigarettes taste fine.

As far as taste, everyone who has tried mine says they are much better....which is because all of the usual added chemicals are missing.

Let me know what you usually smoke and I can give you a recommendation on blend and tube.

There are also lots of yummy flavored kinds you cam smoke straight or blend with your normal flavor.

Tons of options.

TTown, everyone likes the topomatic, but my son uses a Gambler with a crank on it and it works great. Both of them you just put the empty tube on the tip, and roll the crank and the machine loads the cigarette. Ez peezy.

1000, where do you order the Hot Rods? Do they compare to the Gambler black and gold tubes? Ever try Largo Mild?

I roll my own.

.89 a pack

Cant believe people pay so much more, just because they are already rolled.

Takes me 10 minutes to roll a pack.
that includes the packing time, ( 6 taps ) twisted and cut.

BUT, its annoying as hell. Smoke less because rolling is irrating. Easy, but dam, sometime I just roll out 5-6 at a time, then bitch because I have to roll more every 2 hours.

Im quiting this week anyways, but saved a shit load of money

Re: roll your own cigs??
Rolling your own is way cheaper and like a few have said...less chemicals.
A one pound bag of a brand called The Good Stuff" is $12.50.
You get about 600 cigarettes from a pound.
The above brand is packaged as pipe tobacco but it is cigarette tobacco. The dummies forgot to ad pipe tobacco to the tobacco bill so it's a loop hole in the law to sell it as pipe tobacco.
3 boxes of 200 Texas Roll Em tubes are $5. So that's 3 cartons of smokes for $17.50. That's .58 cents a pack.
If you smoke ROI is a no brainer.
Some tobacco stores have a machine that for a few bucks charge will roll what you buy.

I do...for a number of years now.

NYC, $27 for a pound of natural pipe tobacco, which yields close to 3 cartons.

In my area, cigs are about $12 a pack for the cheapest, most caustic crap around.

So, I save about $300 a month. If not for this, I would not be able to afford to smoke.

One of the best advantages is that you can flavor the cigs. Sometimes I add clove or cinnamon powder, while I once added asthma healing herbs when I got a cold. I have added the contents of minty teabags (organic) for when I wish to enjoy a cooler smoke...spearmint is a great flavor treat. I have even added valerian root and other calming herbs for a nice tension buster.

You can't go wrong when you roll your own.

p.s.: yes, I have asthma and smoke, yet, smoking does NOT trigger my asthma. Perfumes, foods, & chemical and petroleum odors do.

You can even put filtertips at the end of your personally rolled cigaret, it takes away the bad taste you can get from the tobaccoooo touching your lips. I do it, it's fun.
Here is an example of the tips: [link to weedsmokersguide.com]
(it's on a website called weedsmokers but has nothing to do with it actually)

Rolling a cigarette feels like a ritual to me, it makes it more your own.

And yes it's cheaper and it tastes better.
