Have you noticed at all, there are so many ads on TV for re-financing at a lower interest rate, or even those "reverse mortgages". I'm probably an old fuddy-duddy, but those types of things make me nervous. Yes, you may get a lower interest rate than what you're paying now, but what does that figure out to? 50 or 100 bucks a month? Meanwhile, you are starting back at "Ground Zero" as far as paying back your loan. How old will you be in 30 years? If you are in your 20's or 30's, it might be a good idea. But if you're in your 50's or 60's, think about how old you'd be. And this gives them an opportunity to re-appraise/re-evaluate your property, and perhaps they'll only consent to loan you a lot less than you wanted or needed. They can actually eyeball your property, make a note of it and create a file for it, and if they want it badly enough they can figure out how to "eminent domain" it for a future shopping center or a freeway which isn't scheduled to be built for another 10 years (but they grab your property NOW when they can pay you the least amount possible because of the crappy market). Just my 2 cents worth, but I say, why bring yourself to their attention - that's the last thing ANYONE should want to do especially now when things are so uncertain and shaky. He went to court last week with copies from his bank showing each month's auto withdrawal of the mortgage. The judge was furious. Her exact words were "Not In Louisiana". She gave the mortgage company 30 days to explain these hidden fees and why the payments were applied to them and not the note. I've worked in law 35 years. It IS HAPPENING |
