"It's apparently pretty rare for this type of "strike and slip" earthquake to spawn another really big one. Aftershocks are just the plates settling into the new configuration." this is what my brother said to me, but I'm waiting on word from my Uncle
Quoting: Really?really? We had a 6.6 last year, same slip and strike. Not nearly as many aftershocks as this one though. IMO, this is a swarm. there is a huge difference between a 7.7 and 6.6 though.
