Why does Jesus refer to Himself as the "son of man" and not the "son of God"?

I heard that a lot of people who go to seminary school as Christians leave as non-Christians. Is there any truth to this rumor?

I've never been to seminary, so I enjoy reading OP's posts and seeing her spiritual journey here. But I have several friends who have either completed seminary or are currently enrolled. Everyone says that their seminary experiences are a "stripping away" of what others have told them or what they themselves may have assumed without a lot of thought. It is like burning away the dross to find the gold that remains. And, sadly, some students didn't have a lot of gold to start with. In their cases, they probably left as non-Christians though some follow other spiritual paths.
