“Let me be clear: This storm is unique, large, dangerous and unlike anything our region has experienced in a very long time,” Mayor Vincent Gray said. “We are likely to suffer significant power outages due to fallen trees and other debris, and we may experience significant street flooding. Let me also be clear about this: The District government is ready to meet this challenge.”

Early Sunday morning, the National Weather Service issued a high wind warning for the entire area. The watch is in effect from 8 a.m. Monday to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The NWS says that wind gusts over 45 mph are expected by Monday morning, and gusts of 60 mph or greater could blow through the area between Monday afternoon and Tuesday.
