God be with them. 16 foot seas is bad enough. Throw in chop and wind and it will likely not be pleasant. Hopefully a cutter can get out there and pick them up A-stat.

In the harbor, the ship is a likely goner. By heading out to sea, AHEAD of the storm, they can save her. Sounds like the storm intensified quicker then they figured. Now the ship is secondary to saving the souls out there.

Coast Petty Officer 3rd Class David Weydert says a Coast Guard plane has since made contact with the ship which is taking on water and is without propulsion.

Weydert says that because of the weather, the Coast Guard is just monitoring the situation right now.

This is from the Kill Devil's Hills area-Breaking-

About 20 people, ranging from a 12-year-old boy to a man in his 60s, on a fishing trip were stranded on Portsmouth Island.

The ferry, which carries five people, couldn't get everyone off the uninhabited fishing island before conditions became too dangerous for the boat, so the group decided who was best able to stay.

"It was a sheer situation of first-come, first-serve," said fishermen Dennis Joyner, of Spring Hope.

"We had diabetics. We had young kids. We had pastors that had to get back to their congregations," he continued. "The few that are here, we were the last straws."

The group pooled their food and water and anticipate having enough to last through Tuesday.

"We'll survive. We'll be able to have food," fisherman Dennis Joyner said. "We're making out fine. It's safer for everyone to stay where they are."

At times, the churning Atlantic has come underneath their cabins, Joyner said. "We're making out fine, as long as the tides don't get much higher," he said. "The dunes are done, so water is just rushing on the island."

State emergency officials were in touch with the fishermen, and the Coast Guard tried to bring them food Saturday, but the surf was too rough.
Torchia was born in 1620. He was apprenticed in Leyden under the Elzevir family. After returning to Venice he published small works on philosophical and esoteric themes. In 1666, Torchia published De Umbrarum Regni Novem Portis (The Nine Doors to the Kingdom of Shadows), which was in turn based on the Delomelanicon, or Invocation of Darkness, a work supposedly written by Lucifer and that would allow the reader to summon devils. The Inquisition condemned Torchia for magic and witchcraft and burned him at the stake in 1667.

Actually the ship sailed from up north straight into the storm for no obvious reason.
I think they are trying to collect insurance money.

You head out to sea because the seas are so choppy the boat slams repeatedly into its docking if left moored.

storm surge is enough to destroy your boat in harbor. You have to get away from objects that will hammer your craft.
That means get to open water.

It did not just sail out of harbor it sailed all the way from Maine straight into the storm, it could have gone north or east, but no it went south straight into the path of the storm.

Gotta feeling this is BS to get everyone to believe in this super-storm shit. I saw the NG site...I think it's propaganda piece. I've also never heard of and American naval ship that didnt' have a full name myself...all sounds weird to me. But that doesn't matter...my intuity tells me this is a made-up lie by tptb.

"The ship, built in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia for the 1962 Mutiny on the Bounty movie, was an enlarged replica of the famous British warship seized by mutineers in 1789 in Tahiti.

"The 55-metre, 400-tonne replica vessel has appeared in many documentaries and the Pirates of the Caribbean films.

"Bounty’s crew sent a distress call at 6:30 p.m. Sunday night, reporting the ship had lost power and its pump was unable to keep up with water from high waves that was slowly flooding the ship.

"Bounty sank, according to the vessel’s Facebook page, at 8:45 a.m. Monday morning. That report has yet to be confirmed."

R.I.P. Bounty. I saw her in July when she came to the Tall Ships festival in Halifax. She will be missed.
