HMS Bounty HAS SUNK!!!
The HMS Bounty has gone down 90 miles off the coast of NC most of the crew was rescued by the coastguard but 2 are still missing.

Two people are missing and 14 are being airlifted to safety after hurricane Sandy forced the crew of HMS Bounty to abandon ship off the eastern coast of the United States this morning.

"We're still searching for two more persons, as the manifest outlined 16," Petty Officer 1st Cullen Rafferty said from the U.S. Coast Guard command centre in Portsmouth, Va.

"Once we get to the air station, we're going to be able to get some more details from the survivors so we'll know exactly who we're looking for an in what manner they became missing."

From what i understand they were trying to outrun the storm and failed.

The Bounty was used in Mutiny on the bounty and pirates of the Caribbean movies. It is a replica.

I wouldnt have spent 4.6 million on it, as its only value is as a movie prop and the like.

Could probably get a brand new 70ft + catamaran or a 100ft + yacht built to personal spec and still have ample change for that price.

Hell, you can get like 45ft yachts for about 50k.

This is just part of the hype.

Sandy is really not that bad, but folks here and the MSM are making it out to be some super DOOM. In fact they are embarrassing GLP in their DOOM reports.

Lets see what happens.

What was a ship like that doing out at sea during a hurricane with the warnings that have been put out about it for a week straight now?

Probably more dangerous to have it in dock.

Guess they planned on sailing it out, anchoring and riding it out. Probably took on water and couldn't bilge pump it out fast enough and it changed the handling and way it was sitting and it was dangerous so they had to leave it.

Thats the thing with old design ships, they are old....and shit.

You can capsize the newish small yachts and they are designed to roll back over and are fairly water tight, so long as you have bilge pumps and a non retard skipper its pretty hard to sink new boats in open water.

Old wooden ship like that and you're fucked in bad weather.

Running aground of smashing into shit is a different ball game though.

Valuation would be a lot higher, to rebuild a ship such as the Bounty from the ground up would be tens of millions.

She is morphing to an extra tropical storm, the biggest in history and her pressure is dropping. Huge catastrophy on the east coast of the U.S. Could be equivalent of a Cat 3 storm hitting New York City 1000 miles in diameter. Stay tuned.

I get that, but what I'm wondering is why was it even in the area give the huge amount of media hype over this storm. Maybe it was trying to get away and just left too late. 1dunno1

Hard to say, you may be right, but it is a fact you can get boats twice/three times the size for the same price.

Far as i am aware this was actually a scaled up replica of the Bounty. The scaling up was probably done for filming reasons.

Not sure how much bigger it was than the original, probably 20% or something.

Update:

Coast Guard Vice Adm. Robert Parker, Operational Commander for the Atlantic Area, told ABC's "Good Morning America" that at the time of the distress call the ship was taking on two feet of water an hour. Parker said the crew abandoned ship into canopied, rubber life rafts with about 10 feet of water on board.

The ship, which had been taking on water and was without propulsion
