Are your potassium iodide tablets within reach? Nuclear Doom?
Every few months or so I visit my primary bug-out location to rotate stock.
As usual, I grabbed some 5-year old cans of preps and replaced them with newer cans.

When I was leaving, I had an overwhelming notion to grab my potassium iodide tablets and take them with me.

I was in my vehicle ready to leave when it hit me so strong, I turned off the vehicle and went back inside to access my stash.

It is no easy task to move the stove, remove the floorboards and gain access to my hidden cache,
and I had just done this, but the urge was so strong I did it again and retrieved my KI pills.

I sure hope this was common doom-paranoia and not inspiration,
but I thought I'd pass it along as KI pills are only good if one has them on-hand.

Good luck people.
Fortune favours the prepared.

EDIT: to add 'Doom' to thread title. LoL.

Re: Are your potassium iodide tablets within reach? Nuclear Doom?
In 1982, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved potassium iodide to protect
thyroid glands from radioactive iodine involving accidents or fission emergencies.

In an accidental event or attack on a nuclear power plant,
or in nuclear bomb fallout,
volatile fission product radionuclides may be released.

... By saturating the body with a source of stable iodide prior to exposure,
inhaled or ingested (KI) tends to be excreted,
which prevents radioiodine uptake by the thyroid.

The protective effect of KI lasts approximately 24 hours.
For optimal prophylaxis,
KI must be dosed daily until a risk of significant exposure to radioiodine by either inhalation or ingestion no longer exists.

The difference between acting on a strong gut instinct and ignoring it can be the difference between life and death. If something happens and you didn't do what you felt you had to it may be too late to do anything by the time the problem is at hand. If nothing happens then there is no harm done. Wisdom is being prepared.
"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787

"strong gut instinct" Yep, that's exactly what it was.

And it's not like 100 or so pills take up much space.
Thanks for the reply.

Always trust your gut! & Let’s all hope your wrong for all our sake.

I'm in the middle of my food rotation as we speak & then this stupid storm hits. Watch me be caught with half my normal supply when the SHTF, it would figure.

Glad you posted, when the nuke plant rumors start I’ll be paying attention.

Assuming plants melt down, why would anyone not living north or east of the affected plant be in trouble?

Wouldn't the fallout head towards the UK and Europe and only affect a small population of people in the States?

Millstone takes precautions

The Millstone Power Station in Waterford, located on Long Island Sound, is closely monitoring the storm and has been installing flood barriers around the plant in case the storm surge is higher than anticipated, Ken Holt, spokesman for Millstone owner Dominion, said Sunday.

The Unit 2 nuclear reactor at the plant is shut down for routine refueling, but Unit 3 is expected to continue operating through the storm, he said.

"There does not appear to be a need at this time to take it off line," he said. "But we are watching the storm track closely."

I highly reccomend the 14 pill pack from a company called IOSAT. You will find them on most doom sites and amazon for around 7$. I do have a pill bottle as well but the pack is flat and thin and can be stashed on you much more easily. I have one in my EDC, first aid kit, truck and bugout bag. Gave out quite a few of them as gifts during early Fukushima days.
