Hurricane Sandy puts MidAtlantic power grids to the test *Nuclear plant operators keeping especially close eye on storm
4:22 PM EDT Oct 29, 2012
Power plants and other utility infrastructure throughout the Mid-Atlantic region are on high alert Monday afternoon as Hurricane Sandy moves closer to shore.

Perhaps most at risk are the region's nuclear power plants, which are often located close to the ocean and are mandated to close if winds are expected to exceed 75 miles per hour or sea levels rise too high.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said Monday it sent additional inspectors to nine power plants on the eastern seaboard to make sure the plants are operating according to code.

The plants are: Calvert Cliffs, in Lusby, Md.; Salem and Hope Creek, in Hancocks Bridge, N.J.; Oyster Creek, in Lacey Township, N.J.; Peach Bottom, in Delta, Penn.; Three Mile Island 1, in Middletown, Pa.; Susquehanna, in Salem Township, Pa.; Indian Point, in Buchanan, N.Y.; and Millstone, in Waterford, Conn.

According to this link, some reactors already shut down but I can't confirm it.

Where you at Phenn? No details necessary, just general. I grew up in Lancaster and was there (pretty young) during the '79 event. You think the old beast will hold? I haven't heard any specific predictions for that area. Many summer days water-skiing right past that place :)

From what i've researched about plutonium recently, I'm surprised we're all still bi-ped from fukushima alone. I can't imagine multiples going off, especially considering Fukushima housed far less fuel than probably any one of those east coast plants. The oceans can't take it, I doubt we can take it... Have you ever heard that 9 lbs. of finely ground plutonium dust dispersed into the atmosphere is enough to poison everything on the planet? That is WAY less than is in any one plant, btw. Good luck fellow humans... I'm starting to think we're totally effed in the a if ascension isn't real... COME ON GALACTIC CORE!!! I'M ROOTING FOR YOU!!! TRIPLE HELIX THIS SHIT!!!
