esoteric parlance talks much about archetypes. the essence of astrology identifies them with planetary spirits. and what is valuable in astrology is that it puts together the symbolic/mythological line of thought with simple mathematical/physical realities.
and as you know mathematical and physical thinking are the two bedrocks that hard-core realist style of thinking can not dissolve by its own. the same situation with symbolic/mythological/fantasy which is the usual limit of the other style of thinking.

coincidence and synchronicity two concepts that account for the same particular experiences of the subject. 'coincidence' from the side of realist/analytic rational mind, 'synchronicity' from the side of symbolic/synthetic intuitive mind.

and we know that lack of balance between the two leads one two two extremes, either a so closed view of the world which dismiss anything as a 'coincidence', or a too open view of the world which sees 'synchronicity' all over the place. Two flavors of madness with their specific symptoms, because each of them misses altogether the meaning reality tries to convey to the subject.
