When my daughter was a toddler she played with and spoke to one imaginary friend, a girl her age she called Cassandra. She said after some time the visits faded away. Then, when she was a teen there were repeated visits to the ER for unknown back pain. Finally, one astute doctor noticed teeth in her abdomen. It was a terratoma tumor which is the remnants of a twin that had been absorbed. She had started out as twins, we never knew it. We have thought maybe the friend was her.

traumatic sexual abuse causes imaginary friends and multiple personality disorder

Your daughter was raped or sexually assaulted, perhaps by your husband, a teacher, a family member, a babysitter...Unless you're with her 24/7 you would never know what type of traumatic abuse happened to her develop imaginary friends.

Wow this angers me I have a B.S. in psychology and a masters in forensic psychology this is absolutely trash. There have been many studies done on this topic. Children who have imaginary friends are totally normal and most of the time are smarter then peers who do not have imaginary friends. It is a healthy part of learning and an extension of learning to interact and socialize with peers.

Your degrees don't mean squat. You can memorize what other people think is the truth when half of the stuff written in those textbooks are lies.Having a B.S. doesn't make you correct by any means.

I had five imaginary friends.
I remember them quite well.
Apple, Pinky, Kype, Shane and Me.
We moved when I was five years old and they choose to stay in the house we left.
