Normally we don't need help though. We aren't Haiti after all. Most of the countries we help can't help themselves let alone help a country the size of the USA. Extra power crews are always useful. As for other countries there just isn't that much they can do. There isn't extensive search and rescue. Most of the work now is clean up and restoration. That takes equipment. Equipment that isn't easy to move. Only the Canadians can really do that because they can just drive across the border. What is BS about what I said? Plenty of countries did help after Katrina. Sandy is different. In Katrina people were trapped. A bunch of countries sent crews, many elite rescue crews, to help get people out of the storm. The people of NY and the East Coast are obviously much smarter then the idiots in NO who tried to ride out a CAT 5 hurricane in a city that is surrounded by water. There isn't much rescuing to be done. Again the problem is the power. Logistically only a few countries can help. Lets say Portugal wants to help us. Do you expect them to load up a barge of electrical equipment and engineers and ship them to NY? It will be over a week by the time they get here. Canada is really the only country in the position to help the USA atm because they can logistically move resources in the USA. I am not a UN loving libtard by any means but complaining that no one is helping when there isn't much they can do makes the rest of us Americans look bad. The USA will always give more aid then we receive. It's part of being a super power. Instead the gov't rented 4 Carnival cruise ships for $350 Million but by the time they got there the idea was scrapped but the gov't was stuck with the $350 Million rental bill. It's pride. The Japenese did the same thing after the Tsunami. They turned foreign aid away because they if they accepted the aid, it would send a message that they can't take care of their own people. It's politics. If the USA accepts aid people will say the government can't even take care of their own people without help from foreigners. Sometimes they just have to swallow their pride and do whats best for the people, not their political future. That's what they would like you to believe but the same government will not hesitate to close your farm and steal your land for a wealthy offshore corporation. |
