well, anyway that moron of a Captain sailed that beautiful
ship right into a hurricane off the coast of Cape Hatteras
on Sunday night!

Yeah, as soon as I heard this yesterday a red flag shot up. I reckon they had enough warning about the storm to move to a safe location. I know you are better to ride storms out at sea but this is a crappy old tallship and not up to the task of hurricane conditions.

I'd bet heavily on an insurance scam gone wrong. That the Bounty was worth more at the bottom of the ocean than floating around.

The woman who died was a direct descendant of Christian Fletcher of the original Bounty! I think her name is Christine.

Ship was due to be in St. Petersburg by Nov 9. It's not real fast, and the early predictions had this this far out to sea at the point the ship sank.

They thought they could skirt the edge of it. The Outer Banks claimed yet another in it's long, LONG list of shipwreck victims.

The woman's last name was Christian, also. Don't know if she was related or not.

Sailing out to sea is the usual way to keep your ships from being smashed onto shore during a hurricane. He was sailing with the wind, but got in trouble with the big waves. Most of the motorized ships sailed East instead of heading South, but that would have been against a ferocious head wind for this sailing ship.

Very sad. I had a chance to tour the ship when I was a little kid--it was an experience!

well, that Captain was instrumental in sinking a beautiful ship, and he will go down in history as a perfect idiot and a moron.

Doubt the Captain was the owner. Also it takes a large crew to sail a ship like this, and I'm sure they had to be gathered. With limited time and winds as they were, he likely made the only choice he could. Don't speak ill of the dead that you know nothing about.
