The fallout from a deadly meningitis outbreak continues as Florida suspends operations at one compounding pharmacy, while a report finds state oversight of the facilities lacking.

(CNN) -- The company at the center of a deadly meningitis outbreak was warned by its own environmental monitors of bacterial contamination of its facility months before the first cases were reported, a government report said Friday.

Mold, and in some cases, an overgrowth of bacteria was detected in different areas of the New England Compounding Center's two "clean rooms" nearly 90 times since January, the Food and Drug Administration report said.

On Oct. 28, Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., called for “a full investigation” into the regulatory issues that led to the epidemic. “There’s a regulatory black hole here,” he said, “but the full assessment of responsibility, state to federal, is ongoing. We need to know everything.”

This.....It was the companies owners and pharmacists that were at fault. They failed to carry out basic cleanliness and keep the environment sterile, basics in compounding.

I'm not a Romney fan, but that is pure bull shit! If it was Romney's fault, it would have happened years ago. This sounds like King Barry blaming Bush for everything. Grow up.

An eye for an eye, they knew damn well what was occurring, but continued to manufacturer this crap.

Romney may have been initially responsible and lax towards regulations as he did with the criminal justice system, others also died due to that (children) as murderers were let out of jail by a made up parole system.

However, Romney has been gone for years and the Governor of the state, Obama's friend has been in for years now and has had every opportunity to check into all issues. Perhaps he should have spent more time doing so rather than traveling for Obama, etc. They both take blame. Now 28 people are dead not 25 and many many are ill. Physicians were complaining, people complain about many issues. He is another Chicago person relocated in Massachusetts, Romney is not from Massachusetts either by the way. They see the state as a stepping stone to which makes the state weaker.

If you look at Massachusetts they probably top the list for Democrats that simply will not retire. Now ask yourselves this one thing:

Why are any government jobs state or federal going to those who are very well off when others need those jobs? They say they know people need jobs but then take jobs they honestly do not need (income wise) when they could step down and let others that do need jobs an opportunity? That goes for all of them: Frank, Kerry, Pelosi, Clintons, Nelsons, you name them-they honestly do not need these jobs yet steal those opportunitys from everyone else.

I have 3 points:

#1: I respect DoorBert, and also find him to be very even-handed when reporting info. Therefore, where ever he came up with the info, I believe it is out there, and being reported as it came to us.

#2: I don't believe Romney meant there should be NO monitoring/regulation of companies...just that they should be regulating themselves. It certainly should not be the GOVERNOR's job to regulate companies....there are deputies/departments for that. Was this part of their job, and did someone NOT do their job?

#3: I believe this is another underhanded, dirty, filthy trick by the Obama administrationt to PIN ANYTHING on their opponment in an effort to WIN, just throw it out there and see what sticks.

Did you even read the post? "Investing" was not mentioned, although it would be interesting to know if he had any interests (financial) in the company.

I would hardly say that regulating compound pharmacies as "going all 1984". We can strike a balance with regulation while not going all 1984. Remember that these people died because a company that was sighted 90 times was allowed to continue to make drugs with mold and excess bacteria in the vials.

I agree that we can't blame it all on Romney. However, I do think he is way too soft on regulation. His idea about getting rid of FEMA is crazy. Can you imagine how well that would have worked with the damage that Sandy caused?

Sounds like this is a recent problem. The FDA had found issues but the problems apparently weren't resolved. Romney hasn't been Governor since 2007. If regulations were a problem why didn't his successor change them? Regulations are not a panacea. Problems can still occur regardless of how suffocating the web of laws is made. This seems like a rehash of the "its Bush's fault mantra"

Pharm companies, CDC, AMA, FTC, FDA all have revolving doors and have billions$$$ to move any law through anyone's throat. It doesn't matter who is the man in charge, because he isn't in charge.
