Honestly, I would be more than certain emails regarding a live fire operation in Libya of all places concerning a diplomat of all people would easily be highly compartmented information; the only existence of those emails are probably somewhere under a mountain, or inside some non descript grey building with no windows on a cordoned off section of a military base. Trust if they "reeeealllyy" don't want you knowing, you will not know. And that's from the inside

The networks obtained email evidence from the White House - specifically, from the office of National Security Advisor James Jones - ordering a counterterrorism team to cancel a rescue mission at the U.S. consulate and CIA annex in Libya. According to Gingrich, "They were a group in real-time trying to mobilize Marines and C-130s and the fighter aircraft, and they were told explicitly by the White House ‘stand down and do nothing. This is not a terrorist action.'"

On Monday, Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee sent a strongly-worded letter to President Barack Obama, telling the commander-in-chief that his explanation of the Benghazi events sounds “implausible.”

In the letter, McKeon wrote:

Your … directive would appear to involve potential actions by the U.S. military … There appears to be a discrepancy between your directive and the actions taken by the Department of Defense. As we are painfully aware, despite the fact that the military had resources in the area, the military did not deploy any assets to secure U.S. personnel in Benghazi during the hours the consulate and the annex were under attack … I find it implausible that the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the commander of U.S. Africa Command and the commander of U.S. European Command would have ignored a direct order from the commander in chief.

That is a great letter McKeon wrote, BUT I want to see the leaked documents! I want to see what Newt was referring to!

This cover-up, like that in Watergate, goes right to the top. What's being covered up is much worse than a "third rate burglary." Why was security so lax? Why were the ambassador's pleas for more turned down? Why did the president lie? Americans have a right to know. Few in the media have tried to find out.

Appeals to their integrity are unlikely to get "mainstream" journalists to do their jobs, since they have so little of it. Self preservation may. The leaked emails expose journalists who touted the administration's story as gullible chumps, corrupt shills, or both.

Spooks and diplomats are angry at the attempt to make them scapegoats; furious that the president didn't lift a finger to help their comrades in the consulate during the seven-hour siege. More leaks may be on the way. If they fail to follow up, journalists could lose more credibility than the president. They haven't much credibility left to lose.
