Re: How many people have 160 IQ
When I was a kid I was obsessed with this.

I did so many of those tests and eventually I became very good at them.

Once you understand all possible patterns at wich you are tested, you just test the possibilities from one method to another.

At some point I felt like they were not properly evaluating anything anymore and then I disregarded them at all.

But last I remember I was always in the 150-16x. None of the test I did actually went beyond those values I think.

When you go through life, you actually met a lot of intelligent people and people with all sorts of distinct traits at different levels. I ended up humbled and "satisfied" never more to care about this subject.

I'm in the above average bracket, using both sides equally. A lot of people on here overestimate themselves.

"Intelligence" is relative to personal situation.
A man with a 160 IQ might as well have the mind of an infant if he's stranded in the woods. In the same situation, a typical redneck high school dropout will be, comparatively, a genius.

For this, I always found it funny that good ol' southern boys are branded as "dumb". When SHTF and you're trying to survive, who are YOU going to want to be partnered up with? Go ahead and sign me up for hanging with Clem and Jesco.

Did anyone ever take that ASVAB military test? It was a bunch of common-sense questions about stuff like how an engine makes power and such.
All the smartest kids in our class failed miserably, while myself and my redneck gear-head buddies scored at the top of the class.

...go figure...

My youngest took the military test. She scored an 89, which was the highest score in her school. FYI, she graduated 1st in her class, with a GPA of 4.49. She was surprised that most of the upper ranked kids had scores mostly in the 50's.

indeed...and 'IQ' has nothing to do with emotional IQ...there are two tests. emotional intelligence is just as if not more valuable to me than intellect, though i do score high on that.

so is that a part of the 'no child left behind,' where they lowered the standards so kids would get higher scores in lesser intelligent communities? never heard of it.

144 to 148 (My range on four seperate tests from grade school to a couple of years ago). 140+ is considered Genius, though I think individual talent should be taken into account (There are musical and mechanical genius' that might only have a 120 or so). 160 is MENSA smart...

I have 132. I was told that is really high. But still bad in math, but good in organisation and conversation.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26694717

I am the opposite. I am very good at math. My brain can do wonders with numbers.

It's language and conversation I have trouble with.

I wonder why? I wonder what that says about my brain? Does it meanI use my left brain more than my right brain?
 Quoting: *Evan*

I'm like you in the math department. It was always my best subject. I think I was one of the few people in college who took Calculus courses just to get easy A's.

English was my passion, though. I excelled in English as much as I did in mathematics, but I don't think it was due to any innate ability as was the case with math.

I was a voracious reader as a child. (So much so that when my parents grounded me, they took away my books. It was the only real way to punish me.) I believe my English skills were learned/absorbed, the result of always having a book in front of my face.

My weakness is second languages. I've found that attempting to learn a new language is very difficult for me. When I tried to learn German, I ended up screaming in frustration and banging my head against my desk.

This leaves me wondering if, perhaps, I would have struggled with English as well if it were not for my reading addiction.
 Quoting: 130 I.Q. 26697328

I cannot learn when someone is trying to teach me; I do have to read up on it on my own. The strange thing is that in school, I would make straight A's one year and then D's the next. I read almost all of the books in the library. I was placed in Advanced Algebra in 7th grade, didn't pay attention and failed. I was placed in AP English in 9th grade, met my best friend, and then spent the rest of the year talking with her. I drove my teachers crazy.
I made a perfect score on the English portion of the SAT's, but then made a pattern in the Scantron columns instead of doing the work.

The only awards that I ever won in high school were for writing.

Also, I pick up on languages quite easily. I'm not fluent in any of them; but I can understand Spanish, French, and Italian for the most part and can piece together a somewhat intelligible sentence.
 Quoting: Boudicca

That makes you a regular idiot, algebra is a 7th grade topic. Advanced algebra (whatever that means) in 7th grade is right where you should be. Most of the mathematically gifted kids I know were learning calculus well before high-school.

Im trying to assess how smart the people here really are.
I think a lot of you are really smart, far superior to the masses.

So please just leave a quick comment here if you are in the 160 or above IQ range.

Thank you.
 Quoting: Mr.X 1546575

"Animals are naturally timid and mistrusting because they do not feel safe. This is how they learn to develop watchfulness, cunning and intelligence. But of course, the form of intelligence that fear develops in creatures is a faculty that is very low on the evolutionary ladder. Nature approves it in animals, but when it comes to human beings, it is different; for them, nature has planned another form of intelligence. The fear that makes human beings clear-sighted and intelligent - fear of losing their money, their home, their health, their job, their reputation - is merely an animal form of intelligence. However, since human beings are destined to progress further than animals, a different emotion must come to replace the fear in them. This emotion is love. Love dispels fear. Once human beings are driven by love, true intelligence, divine intelligence begins to awaken in them."

"It is said in Genesis that God created man and woman in his own image, and, since God is also the universe, man and woman are therefore in the image of the universe. Of course, when you take a look at most expressions of humanity, you tell yourself humankind doesn't amount to much. Yes, but at the same time, like God, a human being is the entire universe.

Our intelligence, which can only conceive of the world as three-dimensional, is incapable of grasping the immensity of a human being. What we can see, touch and hear of them is only a very limited aspect. We do not know the true human being; all we know of them is the covering: like a diver dressed in a diving suit or an Eskimo covered in animal skins, humans are clothed in several skins - their different bodies -, and these are what we are more or less familiar with. If you know, in a manner of speaking, how to remove these skins one after another, you discover a tiny point, an atom of light. But, at the same time, you understand that human beings are immensely great and embrace the entire universe. Both these statements are true at the same time."

"How many opportunities are we given to transcend the mediocrity of daily life! But who bothers to pay attention to these occasions? The silence of the night, the starry sky, and the immensity of space offer us the best conditions for distancing ourselves a little from human affairs, for reflecting on other worlds where beings more evolved than we live in harmony and splendour. All of our preoccupations mean nothing to them; they are insignificant events. You will say: 'But what do you mean, insignificant events? Famine, wars, and murders are terrible!' Yes, they are terrible, but in the eyes of Cosmic Intelligence, they do not merit much attention. For Cosmic Intelligence, only the events of the soul and the spirit are important. If human beings attached more importance to those events which could take place in their soul and their spirit, instead of giving material affairs priority, there would be far less misery and tragedy on earth."

"Most people conduct themselves with astonishing thoughtlessness. Indifferent to the examples before their eyes, they learn no lessons from them and continue to behave as if their acts entail no consequences, now or in the future. They transgress the laws of nature and upset the work of the elements, without realising that by their anarchic attitudes they provoke forces which will eventually react in order to re-establish order. Nature is not an indifferent, lifeless, or unfeeling matter which we have the right to treat as we like; it is alive, intelligent, and sensitive. Of course, it is also very patient, but each time human beings go beyond the limits of what it can bear, it retaliates."

Re: How many people have 160 IQ
My total score is 125-132 on a wisc test done when I was a child.

I also did the Kaufman assessment battery for children and that revealed some interesting things about my profile. Interestingly enough there is a huge discrepancy between my verbal/comprehension abilities and my math ability. My verbal IQ was at 147, and by second grade I was reading and comprehending at a college freshman or sophomore level.

I'm also ADHD, hyperactive is the word, and I generally don't test well. I dropped out of school in the middle of my third grade year, and didn't go back until high-school, even though graduated HS I barley went to class and I hated every second of it. Then I went to college and got a degree in physics and I hated every second of that too. I think I made the right choice when I dropped out.

Incidentally, I think IQ tests are bullshit, and the online ones are weapons-grade bullshit. I have taken online IQ tests and scored between 150 and 200. I think they are scaled high to make people think they are smarter then they really are.
