Still a couple of stupid people tell me they can't be stopped. Go learn what the HOSTS file is and how it is used then come talk to me. |

BANNER ADS cannot be stopped nope they cannot be stopped asshole" Uhhhh... dnsmasq can be installed on desktop systems as well as long as it's a Unix based operating system. And yes, everyone knows that 127.0.0.1 is your own computers address. You should do some reading before you start acting like a pissy little bitch when someone proves you wrong. Banner ads can be blocked. Plain and simple. |
johnisevil User ID: 66085 Canada 01/24/2006 11:25 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There aint one fukin thing you can do about the banner ads, they cannot be stopped" Really? I've been using Linux as a desktop operating system since around 1997 and it does everything I can do in Windows. So as long as it works, what's the difference? If your posts tell me anything it's that you're most likely 12 years old and sadly misinformed. You should do some research before you come on a forum and make yourself look like an idiot. So tell me, what's so shit about an operating system that's never prone to viruses, spyware, etc.? Please do enlighten me. |

REM (OP) User ID: 1404 United States 01/24/2006 11:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok all you people who still do not get it pay attention. Especially you johnisevil. The loopback address sends your browser to your own computer to find the IP address of a URL the browsert is trying to open. So if you add the following to your HOTS file: 127.0.0.1 www.godlikeproductions.com to your HOSTS file down under the line that has the word localhost. and then save your HOSTS file, you will not be able to open this site again until you remove the loopback IP address or put in the correct IP. Well, guess what beraniacs, you can do the same thing to banner ads. Look to the top of this page. there is a banner ad right at the top of this very page, on your browsers. Right click it and select Properties. You will see an URL address like the following: [link to www.afcyhf.com] That is from the banner that shows Nitro-Pak No, if you take the www.afcyhf.com and put it after a loopback address in your HOSTS file that banner will be unable to load on you browser page ever again. But there is one drawback. Each banner may actually point to a different URL. That simply means that stopping Nitro-Pak banners will not get rid of the dirtcheapdrives banners, unless both images come from the same URL, which they do not. Get it now? And don't call someone smarter than you a moron or an idiot. To evryone, I am working on making a distribution package of my program if it is desirable to anone here. The program uses a rich text box and something else which requires two things. Riched32.dll and MScom32.dll or something like that. That means you would need at least the Visual basic run files for VB6 and they can be obtained for free from Microsoft. I could build it so the installer package installs all he necessary VB runtime files, but the installer gets fairly large if I do that. The program, like all Visual Basic programs will not run without all the required files getting installed correctly. Those I do include in the installer package wll be installed properly, but again the more I include the larger the installer gets. I've gotten the installer as small a a few hundred kBytes to as large as 12MB for the same tiny program. That simply means you would prefer that I only include what you really should need. Honestly you should have most of the standard VB run files already. |

I have ran Mandrake,Suse,Fedora,Gentoo and Red hat and they all fukin crash daily the only thing linux is good for is a server it dont work on a home box asshole, and I am a programmer." So you're saying Linux sucks just because it crashes for you? I haven't had a single crash other than some hardware failure a few years ago. Clearly you have no idea what you're doing or you have serious hardware problems. And I seriously doubt you're a programmer if you can't even get Linux to work properly. |
johnisevil User ID: 66085 Canada 01/24/2006 11:41 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "Linux is SHIT and you know it,I hate windows too but linux sure dont replace it asshole! those GPL programs are mostly shit when it comes to doing anything constructive face it asshole LINUX IS SHIT in its present form." No, I don't know it. It has worked flawless for me for almost 10 years as a server, desktop, workstation, whatever. Just because you can't run Linux doesn't mean that it sucks. It just means that you don't know what you're doing and you know it. |
REM (OP) User ID: 1404 United States 01/24/2006 11:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The next incarnation of my program will be to add in a right click add to hosts function so that all one needs to do to stop a speciic banner is to right click it one time and tell it to be blocked. I'm not in a ruch to do this though as it will entail some pretty trick ActiveX programming on my part which is something I am not at all proficient at. Besides my program works perfectly as is. |

How exactly does your program work? Does it work as a browser plugin, is it a standalone daemon, ...? |
REM (OP) User ID: 1404 United States 01/24/2006 12:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Currently it is a stand alone program that is used to add sites to the HOSTS file using the loopback address. The loopback address of course causes a banner to fail to load since the imae is not on my system anywhere. The next incarnation will be more like a browser plugin so that a simple right click on a banner image will then allow one to add that link to the HOSTS file. But again, I'm not in any hurry to do that much yet. I'm sort of thinking in terms of it works and doesn't need fixed. |
