DRUDGE Sex Scandel to Hit Campaign!

As AP notes on the blog, we’re in watch and wait mode, with some very sordid details emerging over at Ace. Anyone care to place comments section bets on which US Senator is about to have a bad day?

UPDATE – I’m now hearing from several sources that the Senator in question is likely New Jersey Democrat Bob Menendez. If this information pans out (there are apparently documents and possibly even a video involved), I’ll offer further commentary. In the meantime, I’ll simply say that based on unconfirmed reports, this is not a run-of-the-mill sex scandal by any means.

UPDATE II – Getting waaaay ahead of ourselves here (the thread is called “reckless speculation” after all), but under NJ law, the governor would appoint a new US Senator in the event of a vacancy.

Out of curiosity, if it does turn out to be this Bob Menendez fellow (I know I'm not the only one who's never heard of him), how is this a scandal which will "hit the campaign?"

This election is about jobs, the economy, the price of gas, America standing up (as they should've done in freaking '08) and saying no to socialism. How can any scandal from a non-participant in the election, no matter how sordid, make any difference in light of the important choices we'll be making in less than a week?

I can't imagine it would have any effect on the campaign, but it will effect the balance of the Senate, which is now totally Democrat - and they have blocked everything coming out of the House for the last 4 years. If we can get a re-balance in the Senate, Romney might actually be able to accomplish something.
