It is really annoying, first no Christmas Concerts at the schools, only "Winter Concerts", then no Halloween, just "Orange and Black Day", what will be next?

At least I have boxes of candies to enjoy with our family for a good year now.

Don't get me wrong, I know that a lot of States were affected by the hurricane, so of course I wouldn't be expecting Halloween to be a priority, but for every where else?

On CBC, they were quoted saying the average Canadian Family this year will spend about $330 for Hallooween, including Candy, Decorations and Costumes!

I get that, based on what has happened there.. but here in Canuckville Halloween is BIG and we really didn't get hit by Sandy, other than a few fallen trees, strong winds.

Did you not read that I had said I was REFERRING to the other states and other Countries? I understand that what is going on in those states affected by Sandy would put Halloween on the back burner.

There seems to be a trend the last decade that everyone takes their kids to malls and trick or treats with retailers.

It seemed it started going downhill back in the day when people were finding razor blades in apples, and they've become more and more distrustful since.

It was a really huge deal when I was a kid too, up to 200 one year, a constant stream coming to the door, not any more.

Yea same it's not like how it was back in the old days but will say mischief night is getting worst every year lol it's true I am a landscaper man let me tell you I lost track of all the houses that I seen today with Toilet paper all over the yards

I have to admit, long ago..... there was a year I would go out with some others whipping eggs at car wind shields that were parked in the drive ways.. once I was too old to go out for candy..

I can just imagine how hard it was to scrape off that crap. If I saw some bugger doing that now, I would high tale it after them loll.

My great great grand mother said [passed on info}they started to put the candle into HOLLOWED out turnips.

When they arrived in america the new world the couldn'd find turnips. so the next best thing was a pumpin.

So halloween started.

A lot of kids seem to be going back to school at night with their families - around here, the grade schools and middle schools have parties and games and costume contests.

I believe this is the day that the veil is thin also! There are loved ones, that I still think are around, whom I wish would go and rest their wary heads. They seem to like to hang around here more often than I wish and my children ask why they won't leave them alone too!

I honestly love this time of year. I also love Hallows Eve! Something about it, it is energized!!

Luckily, my children are in bed from a good walk around the neighbourhood and minimal candy. Now it is time to relax at the fire with a glass of wine and a few Coffee Crisps !

When I was a little kid I'd get a 25 cent rubber mask and go around with my little buddies each of us with a paper super market bag saying trick or treat and all the adults would toss candy in your bags. You could see the happiness and love in the widows eyes handing it. Even grouchy old guys wearing wife beaters and chopping cigars would do the same. Not with mommy love but with duty as if they were teaching us a lesson about adults taking care of those in our society.

Now society is so full of porn and insane predatory movies and TV shows that it isn't safe for little kids to go out on their own.

Here in the 'Bible Belt'; it's Church Wednesday.
Every Church we passed on the way home from work ( 6 ) all had activities going on outside.

To be honest, I don't think I would let my children ever go out on their own for Halloween, not like we did back in the day. I am always present standing at the end of the stair case, or near the entrance, thanking the people and talking with them. Sadly my trust level went to near 0 when I was 12. But I stick with the same neighbourhood, speak with the same adults and I know I could hunt down any one of them if I had to.

Even though it is raining here, my little man was insistent that CAPTAIN AMERICA could with stand rain and my daughter who chose to be a racoon said they are used to this weather. So out we went. All the other children that were out trick or treating were dressed appropriately or had their parents following suit with umbrellas in hand!

Yup love just walking outside and you can just smell the air than add that chimney fire smell it's the best

For me it is a very calming feeling.

We went out even stayed after sundown at least as an older little kid. 12 year old? I dunno. Every house was obliged to buy tons of candy of for the trick or treaters. If you tried to grab some of what your parents bought you would get a slap. Nice lesson learned. This is a different society and dare I say civilization. It was better back then.

What a quiet 2012...

Every year, from the time my husband and I dated, to even now with our children we watch this movie. A CLASSIC! It is on DVD and is always watched just before Chirstmas!
