Don't get me wrong, I know that a lot of States were affected by the hurricane, so of course I wouldn't be expecting Halloween to be a priority, but for every where else?

On CBC, they were quoted saying the average Canadian Family this year will spend about $330 for Hallooween, including Candy, Decorations and Costumes!

Most people don't have extra money for candy to give out to strangers. Most don't even have extra money to buy some candy for themselves.

Prolly propaganda and never happened.

Actually last year people found drugs stuck in chocolate bars, the police assumed that either the manufacturer really f'cked up, or someone had taken the time to iron shut the wrapper after lodging it in the bars. Also had incidents of razor blades in apples and pills put in with the Rockets.

I go through all my children's candy. Of course it isn't 100% safe, just by sorting it out and looking at it, but it does help and I don't want them to fear HALLOWEEN because of some people trying to ruin it for others.

Re: What a quiet Halloween
There seems to be a trend the last decade that everyone takes their kids to malls and trick or treats with retailers.

It seemed it started going downhill back in the day when people were finding razor blades in apples, and they've become more and more distrustful since.

It was a really huge deal when I was a kid too, up to 200 one year, a constant stream coming to the door, not any more.

You know, parents tell their children not to talk to strangers or take food from them. Then they give them a mixed message by taking them to a stranger's house for food.

If it is a community where people know each other then fine. But these days it is just not the prudent thing to do anymore. Take them to the shopping malls. It is safer especially with all the wackos and pedos out there these days.

Honestly I believe your comment. I was also shocked to see the numbers they came out with. I have a hard time believe them in some ways.. but in other ways I don't. It gets crazy here with Halloween, almost as bad as Christmas.

Same thing in my neighborhood. There must of been half the kids from last year. Had less than 10 groups of kids knock on the door.
Ayatollah Khomeini:
“Islam makes it incumbent on all adult males, provided they are not disabled and incapacitated, to prepare themselves for the conquest of [other] countries so that the writ of Islam is obeyed in every country in the world. But those who study Islamic Holy War will understand why Islam wants to conquer the whole world…. Those who know nothing of Islam pretend that Islam counsels against war. Those [who say this] are witless. Islam says: Kill all the unbelievers just as they would kill you all! Does this mean that Muslims should sit back until they are devoured by [the unbelievers]? Islam says: Kill them [the non-Muslims], put them to the sword and scatter [their armies]. Does this mean sitting back until [non-Muslims] overcome us? Islam says: Kill in the service of Allah those who may want to kill you! Does this mean that we should surrender to the enemy? Islam says: Whatever good there is exists thanks to the sword and in the shadow of the sword! People cannot be made obedient except with the sword! The sword is the key to Paradise, which can be opened only for Holy Warriors! There are hundreds of other [Koranic] verses and Hadiths [sayings of the Prophet] urging Muslims to value war and to fight. Does all that mean that Islam is a religion that prevents men from waging war? I spit upon those foolish souls who make such a claim.”

Re: What a quiet Halloween
I took my two boys out to trick or treat a bit and we handed out candy. I think we ended up going through three or four bags and had just a little bit left over. Still plenty of trick or treaters here. Oddly enough when my husband and I lived in a larger city in Minnesota we didn't get a single one.

Some parents from the school mine attend said it was an inconvenience having it on a week night and that they should always have it on the Saturday of the week that ends October.

Re: What a quiet Halloween
I've done the trunk or treats for several years now. Living in a city in an apartment it was just easier. Now, I live in a different state and a rural area so it's a way to let them go trick or treating.

The church I go to (not a member) makes you register and assigns parking and then stamps your hand and your kids' hands to match since we do have some that come to pass candy and enjoy the holiday without kids. While I know most of the people there, and it's a bit of a PITA the way they do it, it IS safer overall for all the kids involved. Not that I'd let my year old wander by herself...but still.
